Hello, I'm new.
I just learned about this scooter the other day. For now I just have one question and then I will sit back and hopefully learn some.
Is this group in anyway associated with the other groups I've seen? Is any one site better suited for someone like me who has virtually no experience?
UXO
If you were able hear me you were to late.

Well, darned if I know what other sites you may have seen or what you're looking for. This site is primarily a way for Buddy owners and wannabe owners to share information and ask questions. There are also categories from some of the other PGO scoots imported by Genuine. Quite a few newbies seem to read and post on the site. I'd say welcome and enjoy.

Re: Hello, I'm new.
Welcome to Modern Buddy!
Which other groups do you mean? If you mean Modern Vespa, this site was started by the same guy, Jess, because he and his wife bought a first-year Buddy. Jess decided to focus his energy on Modern Vespa so Eric took over as admin of this site.
) the mods aren't half bad either.

I like to think that this is the most noob-friendly, least snarky, scooter site on the planet because we straight-up have the best group of users of any scooter board. Something about the Buddy seems to attract the friendliest, most helpful folks. Credit where it's due, Eric does a great job of guiding us by setting and maintaining the tone of the board and (most ofUXO wrote:Is any one site better suited for someone like me who has virtually no experience?

welcome aboard!! i think this is probably the best forum you can look at if you want to get into scooters. the site in general is a little biased toward genuine and their scoots, well lets face it genuine makes some good stuff, but a bunch of people on here also have other second scoots from the old to the new and everything in between. of course you're always going to have the occaisonal jerk, but we deal with them out back. hehehe again, welcome and feel free to use the search bar or ask any questions you may have. there's a bunch of great, knowledgable people here.

Thanks to all for the responses.

I was referring to the two groups on yahoo, there's a Genuine Rattler and a Genuine Buddy.
Maybe you could pm me with the jerks so I can avoid them from the start. Save me a great deal of time I just don't have right now.

The folks here are very kind for the most part. You can't completely avoid all jerks, but there aren't many here, and the regulars are all quite helpful. I bought my scooter last August and had no prior experience with scooting. Because of this message board I've been able to self-diagnose some issues I was having, change my own oil, and in general feel like I know a lot more about owning a scooter than I would if I wasn't a member. I think you'll like it here.

I'm on the Genuine Buddy group as well, as are many of our members. It's much smaller than ModernBuddy and has far fewer posts. It's not quite as much of a community, but has its uses.UXO wrote:I was referring to the two groups on yahoo, there's a Genuine Rattler and a Genuine Buddy.
Also, for what it's worth, the Yahoo! group is run by a dealer.

UXO,
I second the comments about the frienliness of this board. People here are very nice, really hard to find a jerk.
For Genuine products other than the Stella, this is the place to be.
There are other forums out there that are also nice, with nice people, but can get into R rated language with jokes and such. This one is mostly PG13. Not sure of your age, but it might be good to know in case you leave the page on and walk away, your kids or your parents will not freak out by reading the posts.
WELCOME !

Thanks Folks:
I'm new at this internet stuff so that might give you an idea of my age. Well, narrow it down at least. The first forum (Vegetarian Cooking) I ever joined was a total nightmare. I couldnt understand a thing anyone was writing. I did learn quickly not to TYPE WITH CAPS ON THOUGH - very quickly. Everyone was using shorthand and it frustrated the heck out of me. I'm still not a vegie but I respect you if you are. Well, I hope to find my way around here and maybe someday I'll having something to add.
Graciously,

Hey UXO,UXO wrote:I couldnt understand a thing anyone was writing. ... Everyone was using shorthand and it frustrated the heck out of me.
Here's a little help with all the silly internet shorthand. Just go to Google at www.google.com and put in the following:
define:your word
and let Google help you out. I do this all the time, 'cuz I wasn't born knowing all this stuff, either.

For example, I did this with "BTW" and got the following:
Definitions of btw on the Web:
An acronym mainly used online in various forms of messaging. BTW is shorthand for "by the way".
www.ipowerweb.com/hostingdictionary/
Internet shorthand for "By The Way"; used as an acronym in e-mail and on the Web.
www.geekazoid.com/geekspeak/
Meaning by the way, a shorthand form to a comment written in an online forum, such as the newsgroups or IRC (chat)
www.synergy-uk.com/glossary.php
Abbreviation for "by the way," an acronym frequently used in e-mail messages.
registrar.datasecure.in/kb/article.php
A shorthand appended to a comment written in an online forum.

Cheers! Hope this helps.

If it makes you feel better the Rattler group is not done by a dealer
Just some of us stubborn, do our own thing Rattler riding people. I've been posting here, there and everywhere for a while now and Modern Buddy is great. Doesn't matter where you're from or what you ride, everybody's welcome here. The Peasey's have a similar feel too, but a much smaller community than MB (aka Modern Buddy).
