Exercising your Buddy

Post by MikieTaps »

Has anyone else been stuck in a rut of just commuting in traffic and riding pretty slow for a week or so, and felt like your buddy has slowed down over all? :? Then taken him / her out and opened up the throttle and got some high speed high runs and turns in and felt that your bike now runns better/faster? This is totally just all in my head isnt it? :goofy:

Yes. But no.

I frequently feel like my scoots have good and bad days. I use the same gas all the time, most variables the same, but there it is.

mine runs on the weak side when I use "May contain 10% etahanol" gas. I try to stay away from it. It get worse mpg and it has less grunt.

I thought it was just in my head but "Pepto" seems to run better and faster on a full tank of gas.

I've had that experience also. My Blur, Max, seems to be extra spunky right after a fill up. It also has it's good and bad days when I seem to have either power to spare or no grunt at all. On motors this small, it's not surprising that they'd have a bit of character. That and a 1-5% change in power is much more noticeable when you've only got a little to begin with. Our cars probably do the same thing, but we're just not as sensitive to it.

it's amazing how the weather can affect how an engine runs...ambient air temp...humidity stuff like that messes with it.

Yes, air temperature and humidity have a LOT to do with how a carbureted one-cylinder engine runs, and a a bit of a tailwind can do wonders for such a light bike. Tire pressure makes a surprisingly noticeable difference, too. And a slight difference in your weight, or the weight of the gear you're carrying, can make a noticeable difference. Gas quality is probably slightly less of a factor, but it's still on that list (note QUALITY, not OCTANE, not to bring that up again.)

But even on top of that, they do seem to have good and bad days.

And it's a fact, the more you ride and the more variety in your riding, the better scooter will run. The worst thing you can do is leave it in the garage for a long time, neglected, that's when you start having problems with starting/running.

I NEVER leave my buddy for more than 12 hours or so without taking her out... the joys of commuting with her! I am guessing that its the humidity around here, Seattle, that is effecting her attitude... I need to come up with a name :?
