Full Face helmet and sunglasses? Or amber shield?

Post by Penguinboy »

Hi all- Got my full face helmet, clear shield, and my sunglasses seem to fog up with the shield down. They're nothing fancy- just $10 shades. Would better shades do the trick? Or should I switch to an amber shield, and carry the clear and change out at night?

What do you guys do?

Buy a tinted shield. My $130 sunglasses fog up just the same as my $7 glasses. Someone probably makes anti-fog sunglasses, but I bet they are not cheap.

It shouldn't have anything to do with how cheap or expensive the glasses are. My guess is the glasses fit too close to your face.

Try this: After you put your helmet on, carefully slide your glasses on and push them up right against your face. Now pull them forward, away from your face slightly. This gives you a small airspace between your warm face and the glasses. If this doesn't help, your helmet probably doesn't vent enough. First, make sure your chin vent is fully open. You can also try riding with the shield slightly open (some helmets have a shield lock that locks the shield just barely cracked open). If your helmet doesn't do this, and all your vents are open, I'd try different glasses or a smoked shield.

Do they make FF helmet shields with 50 SPF so you can avoid the "square tan" if you ride all day?

i agree, it probably has more to do with the helmet venting and the fit of the sunglasses than the quality of the sunglasses

I don't like tinted visors because when you ride at night they impair your vision, and carrying/switching two visors is a drag and they get scratched up faster.

I bought some tinting film at an auto parts store and put a tinted strip across the top of my shield. It doesn't look very factory because the curve of the shield is much greater than a car window, but it works very well and was cheap.

My HJC CLSP helmet and Native Dash SS glasses don't fog at all.

This might be due to the excellent venting in the helmet.

Cat crap should work on sunglasses.

I carry the clear and use a mirrored visor. I put the one I'm not using in an old sock (washed, of course).
