My local pep boys always sells these cheap 900 dollar scooters made by bajaj, bajaj being a trusted company, I did some internet research, and such. The scooter comes in both 50cc and 150cc versions. Looking at the original maker of the bike, bajaj didnt make the bike at all!
QJ motors of main land china made the bike, and it's 100% the same bike as the vento zip and other chinese rebrands. It has the same body panels, passenger grips, and front glove box. It's the same bike sold in many "US based" scooter companies that actually sell chinese bikes.
Funny though why would bajajusa resort to importing such cheaply made chinese bikes when they have their own factory and models in india?
Although they do service the bikes they say, the ad says they do oil changes and regular maintenance. But still, it's a bike made by a infamous company that many people do not trust.

Argo/BajajUSA is an importer and never had any corporate connection with Bajaj itself. Now that Bajaj (the Indian manufacturer) no longer makes the retro 150 that became known here, I am sure the importer is trying to pick up other (mostly Chinese) lines to distribute. My impression of Argo/BajajUSA is that it is a small operation and could be one of these here today and gone tomorrow sort of things.

Well. there's Baja (bajamotorsports.com, more of the usual Chinese scoots) and Bajaj (Argo). There probably aren't any Bajaj-branded scoots being sold as new in the US at this time. Even those sold bby Argo weren't rebadges, they were actual Bajaj-made scooters.
I'm pretty sure what you saw was the Baja—these are sold in Pep Boys. The Argos are still sold primarily in scooter/motorsports shops. I don;t really know that they're any better than the Bajas, though.

Interesting thing about the Baja website is has a link to a service center in which you need a password to get into. Could it be that their scooters breakdown so much that they are afraid to publicize their repair locations?
Steer clear of these mainland China scooters.

The scenery only changes for the lead scooterist.
