Please help me!! I may need intervention.

Post by charltons »

Just passed my MSF today. (In the rain, mind you)

Here's my predicament. I LOVED riding those little Suzuki GZ250's Now I'm wanting a MC real bad! Do I; sell my Buddy to make financial room for the MC and get one now, wait until some things are paid off and keep the Buddy AND get a MC later? , or forget the whole MC thing and stay with the BUd?

The thing is, the MC is a completely emotional thing- the Buddy does everything I need, and gets great mpg. that's why I got a scoot in the first place.

Please help and talk sense to me( although I'm not sure if I'll get unbiased info here) :(

Well from one view, it is a much better bike in terms of power. But just remember there is 0 storage space, and the conveniences of a scooter dont always happen with a motorcycle. Plys you get 45-60mpg in a motorcycle while the buddy gets 90+.

Me myself, I'd love to find a gmax 250 somehow, but I was grateful enough to just have a scooter already. A scooter is better than no bike at all!

What was it about riding the GZ that grabbed your attention? Being able to run it through the gears? If that's all it was, then, trust me, you'd get tired of shifting around town and wish you had your Buddy back. If what grabbed your attention was more power, then I can't help you, you're a goner.

Seriously, no matter what the deal, hang on until you pay off the Buddy or you're going to be in double debt for a bike, not what you want.

Remember riding in real life is much different than going in circles in the MSF. There you dont need to stop until they want/or tell you to. In real life, you have to be alot more aware of what gear you are in and such. You will be doing alot more shifting than you did in the MSF, unless you ride in the country road stretches alot, theres never a stop light for miles on those roads.

that may be what I do. The power and feel were cool. Although I like the GZ's, in reality they aren't much better than my Pamplona. I can go just as fast and get better mpg. I'll probably take a few deep breths and wait until this passes... :whew:

I went the other way, I was 2 seconds away from purchasing a R 600 from a friend of mine and bought 2 buddies instead. In the long run I'm happier, less tickets, less fuel and less road rash

Keep the Buddy and pay off the bills. If you still want a mc you can always get one. You may be "in love" with the mc because you just passed the course but it may wear off.

Best of luck and CONGRATS on passing!

You could take it this way too:

Most bikers dont use the highway even if their bike can go highway speeds and more. You probably wont be using it for the highway if you bought it, so you'd be stuck in the city/country like now. The buddy can tackle those speeds just as good as a motorcycle, but it gets better mpg
