So I have noticed that during the day there are lots of registers users and guests on pretty consistently all day, but not many new posts and replies get posted. I was just wondering who else is like me and keeps modern buddy open in the background on their work computers to check back while they have “slow time” at work?

I'm a teacher -- it's summer -- I can hang out anytime.

Everything gets back to "normal" on Aug. 1, when teachers will report back to school.

By the way, "normal" is relative. I teach 8th grade, and there is nothing "normal" about that age!

Let me ask the boss if it's ok.

The boss says it's ok. Oh wait, I own the company :-)...

All day at work.
All evening at home.
Having anxiety dreams about what gloves to buy at night.
Check Gmail on my BlackBerry for updated threads every 2 minutes.

I hope this obsession subsides after I actually get my scooter. Or not.

I usually am on my league's roller derby forum all day and have been trying to wean myself off by lurking on the Modern Buddy forum. Trading bad habits.

For those of you with inquisitive bosses, open one of your work documents in the background, then open MB.com, if you hear someone walking up behind you, hit ALT + Tab, and it will switch you to your work stuff… and when I am typing out longer responses like this one, I will open a new email type it in there, then copy and paste… it will keep MB off of your screen while you are getting your type on. I am a bad employee…

I've been in my job 5.5 years and it seems like 90% of the time I am playing on the internet :D

Even have MB as a bookmark (and a bunch of other sites too) on my iphone if I'm somewhere and feel like surfing.

Oy, I would love to be able to pull up MB at work. Alas, anything that has a forum on it is detected by my work's filters and a window instead pops up letting me know that I've been misbehaving and if I continue down the path that I am traveling, I will be looking for employment elsewhere.

Also, I am a training manager, so it probbaabbllyyy wouldn't be to wise to look at MB anyhow. Not exactly a "lead by example" situation!

Let me just tell you and everyone else, if you work at a place that has an IT department, most likely they are tracking everything you do on the internet. They can even find out how many minutes you were online, where you were going, etc.

IT departments are like "big brother."

Can be, but unless you have a an IT dept with a lot of extra time on their hands...

When looking for internet abuse, I have basically two methods.

Sort by bandwidth used... This tends to find my YouTube whores. But also streaming audio/video. Both of which we ask users not to do. I ask nicely the first time, then rat them out to their boss after that :)

Then sort by site, which I use a filter looking for known sex sites and the sort as well as just skimming the list of sites visited for obvious domain names... xxxhotties.com is NOT work related no matter how you try to justify it :D We use filters to block most of them, but once in awhile a new one pops up or something.

But, we run pretty lean on IT. There are certainly some out there that have staff monitoring internet traffic as their full time job. Be careful out there ;)
