New Guy Here...

Post by mo1981 »

Howdy,

Just wanted to say hi to everyone! Mo here from Keller, TX. I'm new to the whole scooter thing and I'm loving what I've seen so far. Just put a deposit down last Sat on an '08 Italia and am dying to get it. I went to a Vespa dealership looking for the Italia but they were pre-sold all the way through Sept. Miraculously, the person who bought the one for June backed out, so I snatched it up. It should be in w/i the next week or so. This is my first experience with powered two wheels, so I'm looking forward to it. Let me know if you're up in my area and want ride with Hulk and me.

Later,

mo

Welcome fellow Mid-City-er!!!!!!!! Well, sorta...my BIL lives out there!

Did you go to Vespa FW or Moxie Scooters?

I prepaid mine at Vespa FW because of the whole wait thing at Moxie...

Although I worship Moxie's knowledge. He is Yoda.
Yes, it's fast. No, you can't ride it.

I called everywhere including Moxie, but ended up at Vespa FW as they were the only ones with unsold scooters coming in.

Where are you taking the MSF?

Yeah, I called up there and they said they had a few coming in unsold. I left the house three mins later. Got there and the one for June delivery was available again. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. When I put the prosit down last Sat, they said it would arrive in 2 wks or less.

Welcome to the forum! I think N. Texas is becoming one of our fastest-growing regions here. I'm sure other regions would be growing as much if only there were enough Buddys to go around.

Ah. I gave Robert my GE Funancing account number to hold the bike. He told me he prepped a file and it would be end of June or early mid-July.

Well, just made arrangements with OH to pay for it in full tonight after work. The next Italia? It will be mine.

:D

Hi Mo,
welcome aboard !

I am sure you will love your scooter. We all do ! Some of us are pretty obssesed actually, but that is par for the course.

I would suggest you search MB for anything that comes up in your head. Tons of info in the archives, but post if you can't find it or understand what you read.

Also read up the Guides section. There is lots of good info: forum12.html

Keep in mind you turn a scooter/mc by countersteering, not by turning the handlebars. Once you get that concept life gets much easier.

Be carefull. For all purposes you just purchased a motorcycle. It is fast, nimble, easy to handle and like most affairs with gorgeous European women it can get you into trouble in no time (trust me, I am from Spain). Treat her nice and she will be nice to you, ride it like you know it all and she will teach you otherways.

Said it many times, but look up into the MSF class, specially since you are new to motorized 2-wheels. Also grab a copy of Proficient Motorcycling. Very good info in that book.

Be mindfull of your surroundings and read up the Who's Crashed thread so you can try to avoid some of the pitfalls other have gone through.

Enjoy it, but keep in mind it is a 65 mph machine, not a cute Roman Holiday toy.

And post a picture of your drolling face once you get to touch your scoot for the first time ! :D
Beer is the answer . . . what was the question?

Thanks for all the info, EP. I'm taking my MSF class the 2nd weekend in July. I'm prob going to take the scooter up to the nearby high school parking lot for some practice beforehand. The amount of info on this sight is amazing. I will be doing the deadlights-to-turnsignals conversion the day I get it.

I'm waiting for my Pamplona from Vespa Fort Worth also. Put my deposit down last week. Whoever gets the word on their Buddy arrival first, please post immediately. I don't want to have to wait any longer than I have to.
