Arizonans or other suffers of great heat w/o humidity

I have read and reread the other discussions about gear but they are focused on those who have less ovens like conditions. I am wondering what you have found most comfortable with our higher temps. I am most curious about the mesh jackets then gloves. Or any other suggestions, I already have a camelback so I am good there. Thanks

We have heat here in Albuquerque and its dry, not any way like the heat you have in AZ, Phoenix area. During the summer I hardly see people ridding it’s so darn hot there – Any way I am no example to follow- I believe in helmets

I always wear long pants, boots, a helmet, and gloves. Today it was 109 degrees and my decision was to not wear my mesh jacket with body armor on my commute to work. The breeze from the ride is great......stopping at red lights can get a little intense.

Yea, I'm in Phoenix. I TRY to wear long pants, and do to work, but most weekends only shorts...I know bad.But I always where ahelmet, gloves (no big deal, actually help keep off sunburn), and safety vest, $5 from home depot.

I've been almost daily here in Tucson. I haven't changed my riding gear at all. I find it to be hot, especially when it is hotter that 105, but it is tolerable. The fact is, when the temp is 110-115, it is going to be hot, no matter what you wear, or don't wear. Remember, Arabs have worn a lot of clothing in blistering. Clothing also provide protection/insulation from the sun.

I just suck it, gear up and go

Thanks for the replies... I totally planning on long sleeves, as I am completely transparent, pastey does not even cut. . It seems that the whelming opinion is long pants, gloves, & a helmet are the best options for the heat.

Get a mesh jacket. Honest, when you're moving, it's cooler than not wearing a jacket, and as you know, at a light, it's just hot no matter what.

I got a Core Cooler last week, and I think it really does help in the low, low humidity we have in the Valley of the God-Forsaken, Never-Ending, I-Wish-I-Still-Lived-In-Flagstaff Sun. It hasn't lasted as long per soak as they say (at least not for me), but I attribute that to the dryness here. And at 110+ there are times I think it is just making me hot and humid, but still I can ride with it on longer and more comfortably than I can without it.

I had read here - I think - that they were being discontinued. And that's a valid assumption, given that Core-Cooler's Buy page points you to the SixSixOne site, which only has Closeouts. But a friend contacted Core-Cooler a week or so ago and received this response (I'm changing the names, because I didn't ask either if I could post this to the world):
"Hi Molly,

Thanks for your interest in our products. We are not discontinuing the line. We did however move our production from China to the US because of quality issues. We will have units to ship again in two weeks. Please get back in touch then and I'll give you details on purchasing...

A meet up ride sounds good. Naturally, we will want to use back roads. Where is a good place to meet? Florence, Casa Grande, Picacho? I have an irregular schedule, is trying this on a weekday or weekend (Saturday or Sunday) better for everybody.

Also, has you seen this Scooter Rally announcement?
August 16th & 17th 2008, Flagstaff, Arizona

Sat Aug 16th
10AM - Meet and greet at the historic Hotel Monte vista in downtown Flagstaff (scooterists get wristbands for all events, rally swag and check in for the night).
11AM – organize first ride from the Monte vista down historic rout 66 to AZ snow bowl ski resort (ride leaves at 12 noon and we will be able to take FREE lift rides with wristband at the top looking out over scenic Arizona, lunch is avail in the lodge.)
Spend the afternoon riding back into flag for local shopping, sightseeing, dinner, etc.
9PM – Meet back at the Monte Vista Lounge for Local MOD bands Eurovox & the Steady Beats playing with several Dj’s spinning the best of Mod, Ska, Soul, Reggae, and brit pop. Lots of raffles all night long! (FREE entry into the event and drink specials for anyone wearing a rally wristband!).

Thanks for the event information. I would def. be interested in driving to Flagstaff from the Valley for the ride. that would be a great ride. I am up for a rdie anytime. Florence would be a great place to meet for the halfway mark from Phx and Tucson.

Anyone else have an idea?

Where did you find out about the rally? I checked the web but could not find any info. I'd like to bring up the trailer and camp. Then ride around town. I'm to much of a newbe to attempt the ride up there on I-17. Driving through BCC area you might as well paint a target on anything with 2 wheels. So I've been told by my Harley friends.

I'm part of a scooter group on Yahoo and one of the folks on there let me know about it. I did find it on the web afterward as well. I plan on taking a route that goes through Globe, by Roosevelt Lake, Payson, then by Mormon Lake and on into Flagstaff. Should be a pretty ride.
Do you know of any rallys coming up in Phx? There will be one in Tucson in November. There is also a possible rally in Tubac, south of Tucson. It will be sometime in the fall as well.

Could this be the Something for Nothing rally? Too bad I can't make it - the routes sound like a blast. Have a beer at the Mad I for me (it's walking distance from the MonteV).
