Warranty/500 mile.. again.

Post by ScootScoot »

I know this has been a topic before, but I can't seem to find an exact answer I'm looking for.

I'm going in on Friday to get my first maintenance done at my Buddy dealer, but I'm at 450 miles right now and if I continue riding I will likely be a bit over 500 miles by the time I bring the Buddy in. Is slightly more than 500 miles going to void my warranty?

Oh! And I had my first Buddy siting yesterday! So exciting! Any female in Tallahassee here have a black Buddy and a pink half helmet?? :D

I think it's before 600 miles when you need your first service or else the warranty dies. Maybe I am wrong..

The warranty card clearly states first service within the first 500 miles. Just take it easy riding if you really have to when you get close, and account for the mileage to the service center. Just keep it right under 500 to their door and youll be fine. Or just go in asap and get it done, it doesnt say you cant go in at 400-450 miles for first service...

Unfortunately they are incredibly busy with all the new business and Friday is the earliest they can get me in. I'll just have to drive that dumb ol' cage for a while. Thank you!

I just talked to my shop and they said just get it in as soon as I can if I'm over 500, but he said they'd take it even at 800.

My original paperwork from the dealer said between 500 and 600miles.

Yup. My dealer said around 400 - 600. I think it seems to be within your dealers discretion. It isn't an exact science - you should be fine.

It's easy to disconnect the speedometer/odometer. Do it now and then connect it back up just before you get to the dealer.

What would you think of a car dealer doing that to a car you are thinking of buying? Would you consider him a crook?

Wow, i just realized, that its only 2 days to friday, and it sounds like such a big deal not to be able to ride the scooter for a day and a half.

Somebody's obsessed.....

By the way, if that's you in your avatar pic, super cute!

With my Buddy's 8% error (that's 8 miles every indicated 100) on the odometer, it will catch up to the real milege in no time at all. It's definitely illegal with modern cars, but new Buddys tend to lose their cable connections fairly often.

The only cars I buy are so ancient that the odometer reading is meaningless anyway.

I'm too scared to mess with any connections myself. Knowing me, I'd fine some way to royally mess it up. But thanks anyway!

Please... If you saw her at your local hangout, we all know you'd be checking her out too. Now the question is, would you actually say something or just be the creepy guy in the corner thats eyeball stalking her all night?

But anyways, nothin wrong with being obsessed. I left my Blur at home today cause of rain and thunderstorm warnings this morning, and allllll day long every time the sun came out, i kept thinking to myself, "Man, now its nice enought to have ridden the scooter to work" and as fates would have it, by the time i got out of work, weather was perfect (although awful humid) and roads were bone dry. I was almost tempted to just go for a ride to take back the blockbuster dvds that I have, which i havent even watched yet, just to have an excuse to go for a ride...

I like Tazio's argument. My Buddy has about a 15% speedo error - 500 miles equals 575 Buddy miles. Works for me!

Or neither. Rian made every indication that he was kidding. And some guys don't feel the need to check out every attractive woman who crosses their path and certainly don't feel obligated to say something.

BUT, since this digression didn't end when it should have: I get a little uncomfortable when people start pulling that "hey, you look cute" stuff on the forum. I realize it may be totally innocent, well-intentioned or meant as a compliment. But it's easily misinterpreted, really not necessary, and may alienate female members (not just the ones who the comments are directed to, but others who just read it). I haven't really felt the need to put the kibbosh on that kind of thing and I know our female members won't hesitate to put the smackdown on anyone who truly gets out of line, but please be aware that even something as small as this may not always be taken in the spirit in which it's meant and can make members uneasy.

Now back to the topic at hand, please...

Warranty states 500 miles.. when I took my buddy in it had 470.. my dealer asked me why I brought it in so early and that they dont do it until 1000 miles. I laughed and said, will you be covering my warranty or Genuine? Needless to say he did the first service at 470 ;)

... and now I'm nearly certain we have the same dealer. lol.
So you got them to do the service? Good to know.
They told me I wouldn't have to bring it back - they check everything at setup. I asked "are you sure? the warranty says I have to come back at 500 miles..." anyway, super nice guys. I'd buy from them again in a heartbeat. But I have been wondering about the warranty stuff.

Many dealers suggest different mileages for first service, though 1000 is on the high end. I understand wanting to have the confidence that should something go wrong, you would be covered. But don't worry about it too much.

Yeah, Genuine does cover the warranty, but the service is done through your dealer. We've yet to hear of Genuine denying warranty service or demanding to see service records for a scoot. As long as the problem is something that is actually covered (parts failures due to manufacturing or workmanship) and is not due to any of the exclusions listed on the back of the warranty card, you should be good.

Call the dealer that will be doing the maintenance. I just had my service on Tuesday, and I had to stop riding Buddy the Friday before--the dealer here has a "no more than 10 miles over 500" policy, and I was at 502.

But call, definitely. I know in Seattle, where I'm originally from, the policy is slightly different on what qualifies for the 500 mile.

if you really have a problem you can just tell them that since your scoot is ten to fiftteen percent optimistic you really aren't at 500 miles anyway.
