Hauling my Buddy?

Post by bdarling »

Just got the call: my Buddy 125 is here and I'm picking it up this afternoon with my Dodge Ram. I imagine the dealer has a ramp to get the bike into the bed of my truck, but I'm not sure the best way to get it out at my house. When I back up to the end of my driveway, the tailgate is only about 14 inches from the ground. Do you think I can enlist the help of a buddy to get my Buddy out without a ramp?

I actually got mine from the dealer in a Dodge Ram, and it was not easy, but can be done. The way we did it was to have 3 people, 2 to lift and drop the back end down, and 1 on the truck to keep tension on the front brake so that it doesn't go flying off. Once the back wheel is on the ground, you can hold the back brake and swing the scoot down.

What I did to get it out of the back of my truck was get a think sturdy piece of wood and just use it as a ramp. I also found at my local ReStore a really old solid thick door from an old home and used that as a ramp. It only cost about $5 for it. There may be one in your area if you check it out.

edit> there is one in San Diego.

Grats on the call. I'm still waiting for my call... I'm lucky in that my front yard is kind of steep, so the tailgate is only about 3-4 inches of the ground. Although, mowing a lawn with a 6:12 pitch does suck...

Good call on the door! I have 4 doors in my garage from my re-model, a couple are hollow, but I can stack them for strength if I have to. I'll probably set one up and jump on it a few times to test it out.
