Registering in GA

Post by golfingirl »

After riding my Buddy 125 for 5 months with the dealer 49cc, no tag required plate on the back, I decided to make my Buddy legal and went to the DMV to get a plate. I had all the required paperwork according to the DMV website and everyone I talked to. After walking out the door with plate in hand my cell phone rang. You guessed it... the DMV. I headed back and they handed me a paper for me to get signed by the police verifying an inspection. I explained my scooter was brand new, but they said it is something they do for all scooters. I left without the tag, more paper work to be attended to and another afternoon at the DMV to be enjoyed. This seems awfully strange to me and a completely unnecessary step. The police have no idea about scooters and very little regard for them in general. I was told by the DMV person, the police will come out to my house and inspect my vehicle for me.   . I can't see that happening. No wonder fraud is so high in GA... it's way easier to work outside the system than in it! Anyone else require a new scooter inspection???

Thanks Dru. Wish I'd read that before my first trip down there. Do you know the best way to have an officer fill out the form? Should I just ride my scooter down to the local station? Will they really come to my home if I call them? Sorry about all the questions. New to scooters and new to the country so this whole process seems particularly bizarre to me. :?

They will come out, but it can take a couple of weeks. I took mine down to the station, asked at the desk, and an officer came out within 10 minutes to do the paperwork, I literally did it on the way to the Tax Commisioner's office.

Thanks. I think I'll just stop off at the local station then. Sounds simple enough.
