Weather Woes

Post by hermitgirl »

Most folks know that I use my Buddy as my only vehicle, and thus far I've been pretty lucky with my 30 mile daily commute. This week, however, has been a doozy.

It began on Saturday, when I was driving my scoot home from my work. The wind was insane. Now I've been bumped about within my lane before, but this was above and beyond. I was actually fighting the wind just to stay in my lane. At one point, it was hammering so hard on my right, that as I fought it, it put me into a wobble. I thought for a moment that I'd be down, and this was on Central Expressway. So I lightened up on the pressure driving against the wind, and in less than a second it had blown me clear into the other lane!

Luckily the car that was there saw me, and it ended up okay, but I was shaking. I had so little control! I went straight home and didn't go out for the rest of the day.

So Monday night I stay up late studying, to complete my LAST two finals of the quarter. Needless to say I'm tired, nervous, but looking forward to my last day. Tuesday I wake up to the sound of a steady downpour. I've driven to class in a drizzle...once. This though, this was all out cats and dogs. What could I do though? On any other day I'd consider just staying home, but I had finals to take! It was 6am, raining, and I'm on the road simply SOAKED through. Two pairs of jeans, a jacket, my motorcycle jacket, socks and shoes were wet through and through by the time I was on the Expressway.

In good news: I aced my finals!

Yikes! Glad you made it through that rain without incident!

Now, get over to a Target/WalMart type of store and get yourself a $10 rain suit! It's not flashy, but those suits will keep you very dry (and warm)! I've got my rain pants (my riding jacket is already waterproof) stashed under the seat in case it rains this afternoon...

Congrat's on the finals! :clown:

Congrats on the finals, HG!! (Big hug). Anyway, I bought a bright yellow rain poncho at WalMart for, oh, I dunno...maybe ten bucks. No pants, though. And I have to hold the back of it from flying around by applying a bungee cord around it and my waist. A trend setter I am....

I'm another non-car driver. If I don't ride my scooter, it's the bus for me. Fortunately, I can get to work that way (if I take two buses, which is not fun). There are a lot of places the bus system just doesn't go, though. I really need to look into getting some decent rain gear. My jacket (Tourmaster) is supposedly waterproof, but my pants definitely aren't.

They aren't cheap, but I will swear by them.

stuff em in the provided bag, and toss em under the seat. Pull em out when needed. They aren't cheap, but they fit over your clothes and they are very portable.
