This was a weird one Skully. I wish the guy would have had the sack to at least tell you why he did it in the first place. Sounds like this issue is over now though, with no blood spillage or police involvement. I gotta say this though. COPS CAN SUCK. Not sending an officer could have caused a domino effect of bad stuff. BOOOO!!!

I would have a) demolished the bike or b) bungied it to the scooter and took it with me.

The dude doesn't have the cojones to tell you why he locked his bike to your scoot and only scoot? I'm sorry to say, but I'm not so sure this is over. He sounds like a pissant who will do whatever it is he's trying to do, as long as he can be anonymous doing it. He's probably a troll on some boards too.

Sounds like a psycho to me. In the least a borderline personality. He did not notice that he chained his bike go your scooter ..3 times AND DAMAGED your scooter? Went out of his way to find your scooter again and again?
If he does it again file charges against him for stalking and get a restraining order. Cops may not react to your bike being abused but forth time mean this is a nutcase and it may meet definition of stalking. Make sure you take pictures and record dates. If he approaches you again let him know firmly the matter is finished and there will be no further contact.

I'd like to chalk it up to ignorance, but it wasn't. he clearly knew what he did, and when he got busted at it, he cowed.

Which is good. I'd rather that than escalation until we're each hating our commute and then one day, I go without coffee and I strangle 'em...

Well played, skully.

I don't think you could have chosen a better way to handle that.

for the 2nd time, a bicyclist chained their bike to the post AND to my zuma. When they did this, their handlebars scratched the living piss out of the font of my Zuma (which I am trying to sell...). it was the same bike each time.

Now, since it's very public, I just roll up, give some space, and cable lock it to a provided U bar in the ground. They put these all over an outdoor mall to make bike and 50cc scooter parking easy. This person also could have used any other bike spot if they were displeased with my parking.

Instead of waiting until the jerk returned, I simply used his bike as the lever by which to decimate his chain. This was not kind to his frame, and I noticed 2 days later his mangled bike is still strapped to the same bar.

on one hand, I feel like a jerk. I may have hobbled someone's transport. on the other hand, it's not like the bicycle has a plate, and the person seemed to deliberately find and vandalize my legally parked scoot. they would have also hobbled my ability to come and go as I please.

What do you guys think?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Awesome.

Not that I would eevvvvvver condone such a thing, but it would have been even more epic to nitro-freeze & fracture about a four-inch section of one of the bicycle wheels.

Yikes. He sound like a passive-aggressive psycho to me too. Where do these creeps come from? I worked in a place where we had one gey like that in our department. Within a few months... One by one everyone else quit, including me. And the passive-agressive jerk did lousy work. You would think the company would have noticed that they lost four good employees and still had the lousy one. The new person they hired a couple of weeks before I left... Who was an excellent hire, was so frustrated by the pischer that he was already looking for a new job when I left. Unbelievable.

But most people, I think are decent and are just minding their business with their daily lives like the rest of is. I never ceases to amaze me how one person can mess it up for a lot of people... I guess it's like how how one small dog turd can stink up a whole house. It doesn't take much.

Sorry for getting into to this so late, but I would have removed the lock from both vehicles and perhaps make my point by removing the offender's bicycle seat. On the bright side, I would have left a note: "Your seat is on the roof of a nearby building. Do this stuff again and your bike will join it."

In any case, I'm glad that it's settled but not for a second do I believe that this was done accidentally to your scooter at three different locations.

heh.

You guys crack me up!

The responses ranged from "be nice" to "kill him with a hammer and bury him with the bike".

At any rate, I have his phone # now (unless he honeypotted me with a google # too...) and if it happens again, I'll just call him and get the cops on it. I really only have so much patience, and as much as I like to think I'd behave, I probably would not. He didn't seem unstable, he just seemed like a very self-important douche that uses his bike as an excuse to be drunk constantly and generally be a lech on top of it. Doesn't really excuse me dinging up his bike to break the chain, but I'm not entirely convinced he even noticed. One of our local bartenders across the street suggested I bend it around the pole, which I found to be a bit extreme....

Overall I think that confronted face to face with his own BS, not to mention my stern glare, I think the issue is resolved. I did let him know any further damage would be reported to the police as vandalism, and I'd expect him to do the same.

Yeah, on 2nd thought, the liquid nitrogen offers up a whole range of nasty things you could do that would totally leave someone baffled.

"How the bloody hell did my tire shatter?"

Yeah yea, everything's better now. But it's fun to pretend!

I'd still keep a wary eye out for this guy.
He sounds like someone that's intentionally trying to push someone's buttons, possibly enough to get to a point that would result in his own personal bodily harm-- probably so he could sue you. (Which would definitely work for a less intelligent, more explosively angry person.)

Definitely a good job telling him that the cops know about it though-- maybe he'll get the hint that he needs to start picking on someone else.

If not, if you see his bike chained to your scoot again, don't go near it, call the cops and tell them the guy has been stalking you and you feel this may be some kind of a trap for a mugging or something, tell them that you fear for your own safety or "feel threatened", then they HAVE to send someone to check it out. Maybe they'll be smart about it and "impound" the guy's bike too.

we'll find out next Tue.

if he did do something and they won't send an officer, I'm not sure quite what I will do.

He pretty much tucked tail when I confronted him directly. I'm also going to park the scoot in front of the friend's bar. they aren't really there until I'm almost home, but it doesn't hurt and if nothing else it's on camera.

Having been a detention officer at a county jail I can definitively assure you that there are more people out there just like this jackass than most of you seem to suspect. And the concepts of conscience and remorse are totally foreign to them. Keep an eye out for this cat because if he felt even in the least bit humiliated, he may very likely seek revenge. Sorry if I seem cynical, but spending 12 hours a day locked up in the same place as the worst of humanity, you tend to come to a rather disturbing understanding of how their minds work. As a result, you will never find me unarmed.

Yeah. I'm actually only very peaceful by the confines of society. Not that I advocate being a total psycho, but on more than one occasion someone has demonstrated total disregard for human life, namely my own.

I don't carry a weapon, and if it came down to it, even if I was right, it's not worth really harming the guy (I have insurance....) but if I thought he caused further intentional damage, there would be consequences.

I'm with you, in being dubious that this is really over. Look at what normal stalkers get away with. This guy may have seemed cowed, but it may all have been part of the game for him.

I hope it's over, for skully93's sake.

He's just a grade A prick. He did it again, hoping you'd just bend over and take his bullshit, and he could revel in the glory of being able to frak with somebody like that.

Then you DIDNT put up with it. He either genuinely froze up when you confronted him, or played dumb just to be a smartass.

Either way, this guy deserves to be bitch slapped for no reason by the next four people he tries to hit on, his toilet to stop up and overflow, and all of his socks to get holes in them.
