I HAD and ElCamino- But my parents gave it to my Brother-in-law! (Sore Subject) They thought it was a Boys car, and I wasnt a boy! If I could get that back- 1970- then I would use that as my scooter hauler.
But the van is 10 years old and does nothing but break. PLUS- we have 3 other cars in our driveway besides my van, I dont think we can fit another. I thought about the tax donation thing- but I wouldnt get the money until next year, right? And If I can get $2000 from selling it, it would be better than getting $500. I think Im going to take my van to Mesa Community College and see if the automotive students can work on it for cheap- then Im going to advertise in Greensheet, Craig'sList, on the van, AND park it on the corner. If it doesnt sell in 2 weeks- Ill go find a Cliff-
AND BTW- Mesa plowed over all the edges of the mesa- now they are just nice gentle slopes- Not good for driving a van over.
And Yea, I could leave it in west phoenix- but odds are that it would just get stripped of the good stuff and returned to me- My Luck Sucks!

I think my Karma bank has a hole in it! The more good Karma I seem to get, the less I have! I think Im experiencing Karma Identity theft! :(

How doe you turn your Luck around?

Anyway, it looks as though Im never going to get a Buddy! If I could only get rid of this DANG VAN! I just need to find the closest cliff and drive it off- Any one know of a close cliff? :( My Buddy purchase date looks more like 3 weeks away now  BUT I WILL PREVAIL! I Will GEt My Scooter! (I told Scooter Invasion to hide one of the two blue scooters for me so no one will buy it)
 How's everyone elses quest for their new scooters going?
one word... "CARMAX" I sold my 88 lincoln there for $1000. they'll buy ANYTHING, and you dont need to buy from them to sell your van. I dont know if there is one in the phoenix area, but there is one here down in tucson.

Well, Im taking my Van into the MCC Auto Dept. and they are going to take a look at it and fix what needs to be fixed- If I can get out of there with all the repairs done under $500, Ill be in luck. SO My projected Scooter Purchase date is ABOUT 2 Weeks! Fix it this week, Put it up for sale Saturday, and get it sold in a week and a half- does that sound reasonable? Iv never shold a car- does it take long? It better not- I WANT MY SCOOTER- the dealer only has 2, and Ive already picked out the one of the two (I know, I know, they are the same) But it is labled as #12 and 12 is my lucky number.

Your parents gave away your El Camino? No wonder that's a sore subject! That's downright tragic.

Well, good luck with the van. I had a near-miss with $1,200 in car repairs with my "birthday present" from my dad, so I can totally feel your pain! Because dude...there went my Stella money.

PS Poli- Congrats on being a new moderator - I hope to be a True Scooterist in 2+weeks- the initial assesment on my van is better than I thought- Im taking it in again on Monday and Tuesday, So, Soon, Very Soon! 8) Then I will have to find a Herd of Arizona Scooterists to Ride With!
( I went to my dealership and played with the scooters again on Tuesday, It was fun, they let me beep the horn, and I got to hear it start up, and My helmet I painted matched perfectly, and I played with locking the handle bars, and opening the under seat storage) The Dealer said if I sat on the scooters any more then they would have to sell it as used   Maybe Ill get a discount if its "used" :D

That orange buddy posted earlier, That's mine now :P

I just bought it today! On sale too! Bought a creme 07 buddy and a orange 08, got 200$ knocked off because I got 2 bikes, then because they were onsale, got another 100 for each bike off, saved 400 dollars total.

I originally went looking to tell them I wanted to order a blur, but it turned out, after laying eyes on the orange 08 buddy, it's too amazing to pass up on.

My father and I have had this dream for say 2-3 years, for me it's been say 5-6 years since I accidentally stumbled upon the scooter world.

Anyways...........

We both got buddies, that is why we got 2 scooters today. Dave and seth walked us through and showed us some big bikes and bikes with high seats, we fit on them all, some barley, but we just felt the buddy had that special place in our heart 8)

Dave told us he'd sell us blur's for 2700 a bike, and we had wanted them, but seeing 2008 buddies, and still having that nostalgic feeling for the classic look, we bought them instead of the blurs.

The only accessory I bought for mine was a black rear rack, I was gonna get chrome, but the whole bright orange/black scheme didnt go tell well with chrome.

Also, no rallies for us probably, we're just learning to ride, never ridden them before, so for the first month or two, we'll probably be in our neighborhood streets.

We just got our Pamplona & Saint Tropez off the truck & out of the boxes yesterday. They're definately pretty, the red on the pamplona is much deeper/flatter than the old red from last year. I hope they decide to use that red on this year's solid color :)

Other than that, it looks like a switch to Maxxis whitewalls instead of the old Shinko ones. Definately a better tire. The car horn is a nice touch too.

I dont have my drivers license and my insurance place is making me pay 45$ a month for full coverage on a buddy 125. They told me at state farm, if I get my license, they would lower the monthly payments to 26 dollars a month for full coverage.

Wow.. It blows my mind that insurance is $55 a month in AZ. Im paying about $200 a year with a credit back to me of $100 for it being a second vehicle.

Insurance prices are based on so many things-
you guys may have very different coverages. Down here in FL, I an paying about $150 / year but I don't have uninsured motorist or collision. Adding those would put me up to about $600/year.

Im (well, my family is) with Farmers Insurance, We have 3 other vehicles besides mine, so you would think that it would be cheaper, but Im Ok with $55 for full coverage. maybe the extra money goes toward sending you flowers if you get run over - or maybe I get a really hott doctor - Or maybe a hot Dr. who brings me flowers and chocolates(for medicinal purposes, ya' know  )- I would pay extra for that! :D

Think twice about full coverage. You're being quoted $650 a year for full coverage on the scoot. The scoot is about $3000 give or take. If you have a $500 deductible, which is common, and you total the bike, once they figure in depreciation and such you'll probably get a check for around $2000.

What you can look at is getting liability + comprehensive, without the collision coverage. That's what 250koala has on hers, and it runs $170 a year. She is only not covered if she is at fault in an accident. But if the scooter gets stolen, vandalized, lost in a flood, crushed under a falling tree branch, etc, it's covered. (I think the deductible is $250.) And if an accident is someone else's fault, they'll have to pay for your damage. Also, make sure you check with Geico. They have some of the best rates for motorcycles and scooters.

Two tone blue is awesome. 150 pulls through at acceleration around 30-40mph. Mph tops out at 80, not 70 on the 150.

Oh, and it's fun as all get out.

Hmmm. How are you getting insurance on a 125 with no drivers license? Do you mean no motorcycle endorsement on your drivers license or do you really mean no drivers license?

Okeh, so it was raining horribly and awful gross out on Friday, so I didn't get to watch a test drive. But the nice folks over at Philadelphia Scooters did indeed demonstrate the horns! WOW!!! I am super-jealous. My WoLo Mini is nothing compared to the Stebel in the 2008 Buddy 50...but the 2008 Buddy 150 comes with the legendary Stebel Nautilus AIRHORN!!!

It's loud, it's double hi/lo tone, it's awesome...sounds like a big rig, for real. I have now decided to skip the two-tone panel switch (for now) and upgrade my horn to the Stebel Nautilus.

You can get insurance with just temps or "Motorcycle only license"

Here in ohio, there are 3 licenses, there is the "Motorcycle only" where you can only operate a scooter/motorcycle, there is a "car only" where you can operate a car (and a 50cc scooter :D), and then there is a "motorcycle and car license" you can get which allows you to do both car and bikes. I'm getting my "motorcycle only" for now, later on if I ever need a car license, I'll just get the "motorcycle and car" license.

I believe in Ohio you still need a motorcycle license for a 50cc scooter. I guess thats why I have never seen one for sale at Metro Scooter in Cincinnati. You do not need a motorcycle license for a moped with 50cc's. The bike must be 50cc and have pedals to qualify for no license riding.

I am going to Scoot Around Town today to put a deposit down on a Buddy. I am torn between the Italia and the Pamplona. Seeing the pictures posted on this forum is making my choice difficult. I guess I am going to have to wait until I actually see them in the flesh to make my final decision.

i saw the 150 sunday, that horn is loud. the owner's 4 year old loves to stand on scooters and beep the horn. i helped him up on the 150, ed said it was ok, and showed him where the horn was. he wasn't ready for the sound. but we laughed about it.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but since it does have to do with my new buddy international purchase I hope it's ok...

The Pamplona is available at one of the local dealerships, but not at the MOST CONVENIENT one.

It was suggested that I not buy from that dealer b/c it would be a pain to have service performed there. I had assumed I could just take it to any Genuine Dealer to have service performed...do you guys know?

Only the first service must be performed by a dealer, and yes it can be any dealer- it doesn't have to be where you purchased it.

I bought my SI at Scooterworks (Genuine's "SISTER" company!!!) and got my first service at another dealer in downstate IL. For warranty problems, I've had to go back to Scooterworks. And I'm still waiting on parts. [Since August 2008. Thanks much, Ken, the commission was nice, wasn't it? I understand that it takes a while to get parts from Taiwan, but an update email or call would be nice. And I haven't heard a thing.]

So I believe your situation could be an issue if you have serious problems that are under warranty, but that's a crapshoot, eh? How far is dealer-with-Pamplona from closest-dealer?

the close (non pamplona) dealer is about 25miles away and I've ridden up there several times (Vespa/Piaggio/Genuine dealer). Excellent dealership.

the further (pamplona) dealer is about 40miles away and I've never been there, but I've heard really great things about the dealership (Genuine/Kymco/TNG/Italjet).

crap...hmmm... I suppose I should call the closer dealer and ask when they are getting it. I could just go up and test drive the St Tropez they have in stock and put a deposit on the Pamplona. That's probably a better choice anyway since I am supposed to be waiting to purchase until the 24th anyway. lol (being out of town all next week and all)

I have purchased from Scooterworks. They are great when it comes to you purchasing from them. Customer service.....I asked about the dimensions of the wicker basket for the rear rack and I have not heard anything. Maybe they have better things to do than answer their customer's e-mail??? I have even recommended them to others.

Anyway, if anyone knows those dimensions, please post them. Thanks.

Any Genuine dealer can do warranty work on a Buddy and be reimbursed by Genuine, not just the original dealer where a scoot was purchased. I suppose a second dealer might tell you they were too busy but warranty work is usually a pretty important part of a dealers service business.

Delays for parts is another story , of course. That is a problem that Genuine can't seem to solve. Delays of 6 months or more on many parts is certainly not unusual.

I heard that the international Buds would be in Tuesday at Scoot Around Town. Wish I were there to breath new plastic parts. mmmm. I'm fairly certain once you see them, sit on them, honk the new horns, you will know which one will be the buddy for you. As far as the new ones go, I am certainly gaga over the St. Tropez.

Good job, Val, on getting your permit. I'm still riding on my permit. Hope to take my class in a month or so....

My class was fun, but the teacher was a very rude man, but I passed day 1, he made me do 126 questions in 4 hours, read the page and text infront of the class, people kinda snickered when I said I rode a scooter, but I dont care about them.

My class has like 20 honda 250's which all look brand new, probably used, but the paint looks new. The only thing that scares me is shifting with the foot, and the final on course test.

Everyone got a 50 question test which had to be due on day 2, miss 2 questions and you auto fail the entire class, that is what the teacher told me.

During class discussion, he kept telling my table to shut up since we were "making too much noise" but we were struggling to find answers for our questions, so we worked during brakes too and caught up and passed day 1.
