Which color to get?!?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Buddy 50 and can't decide between black and orange. I really like the orange, but am afraid it will get old after a while and I'll wish I had the black. Are you orange owners still happy w/ your color choice?

I think both colors are uni-sex, but I'm a guy if that matters. Thanks for your thoughts!

I love my orange Buddy. I'm not tired of it yet and really like the extra visibility it provides me on the road. Also, if you tire of the orange, you can swap out the panels. Anyway... you'll enjoy it!

I too was confounded by the choice between Black and Sunset. What helped my decision was the seat covering. On the black buddy the covering was textured and on the orange one the seat was much smoother. I liked the fact that the black covering would give more traction to allow me to resist sliding forward during hard braking and because of the texture the black seat felt cooler to the touch. ( My dealer puts several of the bikes outside on nice days.) I also liked the fact that the black has the silver accents.

Black wasn't available when I purchased, and I wasn't thrilled with the orange. It seemed a little over the top. But it makes me feel safer in traffic and now I love it!

Color choice is pretty subjective. If you like the orange now, I wouldn't worry about getting sick of it later.

All the Buddy colors are nice. My first impression led me to the cream but no 125's were available. I thought about the black and really do like the silver accents, but a number of things about black bother me. I bought the orange and, if anything, it's grown on me. It's one color that's pretty unique to the Buddy.

Mine is orange, and it has grown on me over time. At first I got it as a compromise with my wife; I wanted a black scooter, she wanted me to stay alive. So the more visible (in theory anyway) orange it is.

That said, I do like to be a little different and I'm planning on painting some of it dark green as soon as the weather allows. The paint is purchased, the Buddy is waiting. The weather is getting worse.

I got the orange because it's a vibrant, exciting and unusual color. I'm glad for the orange stands out, why I had even bought an orange sweater before the buddy. As a mature woman I appreciate the vivid color that announces my arrival at intersections.

I'm still happy as a lark to be scooting around town...one more nice day before the cold sets in again...i must be scooting along:)

Black, and like it much – would have gotten red if it were available at the time, not so much the Ruby Red but more like a Ferrari Red!

I was having trouble deciding between the pink and the orange...I loved the retro look but also worried it was too cutesy, and the white accents would get dingy over time; I also thought that the orange would cover more "oopses" and dirt better than the pink or the black (which actually SHOWS dirt more than white or silver), and visibility was a factor too. So I got the orange. I love it!

Well, my decision may be made for me. The local scooter shop in Atlanta only has them in cream and black. They said I can order an orange and it will take five days or so to arrive. They're charging $100 over MSRP (1,999), is that normal?

Also, off topic, but do you guys know if Florida is like a lot of the other states where <50 cc scooters don't need tags, titles, license, insurance, etc?

I like the orange. I've got cosmetic damage down the side, and it really isn't noticeable at a distance (even though the damage on the trunk is pretty good sized. LOL)

I thought the black was cool, but I thought it would look older faster once the shine wore off.

The orange is dirty, etc. now, and doesn't look bad. I keep frogetting to hose it down during warm weather. LOL (Ok, so I'm riding it during the warm weather, therefore have no time to wash it! Hehehehehehehe)

I am thinking of suprising my husband (although, it's not really a suprise...he knows I'm planning on doing this.) with a Buddy 50 at some point, and I think I'll be going with black for him.

my roomie has a pink stella, so i occasionally take out hers if i need a pink fix... i did not like the white seat on the pink buddy, but now i know that crystal at scooterseatcovers.com can change that in a jiffy for 60 bucks....

Orange is one of my three favorite colors! (I made my bridesmaids wear purple, orange or red dresses.)

Orange is a bold persons color. You are not afraid to be noticed. You know who you are. You do not want to blend.

It's like the little black dress conundrum: bland girls wear little black dresses to everything. Supermodels wear colors.

It's a philosophy.

Just my opinion.

PS I must admit to sometimes longing for a pink buddy. Sigh. It's the girly-girl in me. But then it wouldn't go with my orange sweater, orange skirt,. . .

Yes, we're in North Hollywood, which is the Valley. Unlike West Hollywood, where I'm sure no one would give him a second look on a pink buddy.

I find it really funny that pink is a "girl" color. I'm so glad that no colors are banned for my enjoyment because they're "boy" colors. How limiting.

As for your scoot, get the color that you really love. When I got my car I had decided on getting a creamy yellow because I didn't like the red the VW Bugs were currently coming in (although I love red cars and have always had them before). When we got to the dealership, they had a new "salsa" red that was really nice and I was about to change my mind at the last minute. Ericalm talked me out of it. While I love my cake batter yellow car, everytime I see a red one I get a little twinge. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't if it had been the other way around.

Who needs speed? It's a guy thing, right? I think the cream is very elegant and I see no reason to go so fast that no one notices.

Well, your right speed is a guy thing and maybe I got it a little wrong – it wasn’t speed but power (another guy thing).

Ah, but underneath that beautiful red exterior is an extremely fast, black and silver one, correct?

Let the debate be rekindled (see topic458.html) but as Rajron's chart clearly states (suspect and prejudiced as it might be) black is fastest.

(Plus my scooter dealer rides a black one, so it must be true).

I do believe our scooter dealer would be faster than us on either of our Buddys.

Also since my wife has a Buddy as well, I have on occasion been able to to do a little side by side comparison and I have to admit, as far as anything in a straight line goes, her pink one beats my black one every time.

Pink Buddys are also faster at-
Getting a flat tire,
Blowing an exhaust gasket
And getting knocked over by an angry mob.

Much to ericalm's chagrin, the pink Buddy will also beat his Vespa LX 150 off the line every single time. He calls it the "little pink rocket."

We were talking about going full throttle, and I said I have no idea what people mean because I've never hit full throttle. I can easily hit 55 on half.

Full throttle...what's that? I barely have to twist Pinky T's arm to get up to 45mph.

Full throttle is the term used for twisting that thingy on the right hand grip as far down it will go.

One might feel the need to do this when riding with a group of more experienced but clearly pyschotic scooterists on a 55 limit road or twisty hilly back road or just about anywhere really:

Full throttle is generally applied whenever maximum possible speed (and/or acceleration) is desirable. I rarely need to do this on my commute, but I found myself there quite a bit on the Dec. 30 ride pictured above. Scooter Dave took that photo btw. His pictures are usually clearer than that one. I am riding that orange bit of smudge directly behind the monster in the front.
