so, i broke down and got contact lenses today! i really need my glasses for driving/scootering, especially after dark, but i never seem to remember to bring them with me. also, my glasses do not feel comfortable under my full face helmet, and the glasses and visor combo is tough sometimes on my peepers. well, i had an eye exam today and was fitted for contacts! i have them in now, first time ever wearing them, and they are doing great!!! i cannot wait to scoot tomorrow and see how my new and improved eyeballs are going to act! i am expecting the contacts to dry out some in the helmet from wind and such, but i will always have eyejuice with me so that should not be too much of a problem. does anyone else have scooter/helmet/contact issues or pointers? thanks!

I too wear contacts some of the time. It's much more comfortable than wearing glasses inside the helmet. I like them with the full face, as long as you keep the faceshield down. They do tend to dry out with it up, unless you are also wearing some kind of wrap-around sunglasses. I have some of those Bono-looking Armani ones that I can wear with my 1/2 helmet & contacts, and the eyeballs are fine. Plus, with contacts, your vision is even better than with your glasses because there's no reflection. These are the sunglasses I wear with the contacts...

I just got the nolan n100e and it works great with my glasses. I used to have to take off my glasses to put on the helmet, but the flip up action is great. The only problem is that my glasses fog up, not the visor because the inner visor that came with the helmet prevents the fogging.

I wear motorcycle safety glasses with clear or amber lenses in addition to my full face helmet. I have found that in San Francisco, I often have to crack the visor to air out the fog, so it helps to have my eyes covered. Also, in the cold, my eyes often tear up, so the extra layer seems to help.

I stopped riding years ago for a couple of reasons; the birth of our daughter and deteriorating vision. Once I moved into bifocals I felt that my peripheral vision especially had been compromised, but honestly, this had been going on for years. I hoped to switch to contacts but the contacts of that time couldn't cope with my astigmatism.

About 6 years ago, a close friend with worse vision than mine had lasik. I had actually observed a lasik procedure a few months prior to this and it made me pretty squeamish. My friend's outcome was so dramatically positive that I started thinking about it and visited a few specialists. It didn't take long for me to take the risk and it became one of those true life-changing moments. I went from not being able to see my alarm clock when I was in bed to 20/20 in both eyes. I do need reading glasses now but I also have amazing peripheral vision, which is perhaps the biggest safety issue when riding. Maybe not an accessory, like contacts, but lasik provides a similar outcome.

Speaking of glasses, check this guy out, he sells a good bunch of glasses for $15 shipped each. Much cheaper than many others, but quality stuff.

well, i have not had a chance to scoot with the contacts in, or scoot at all for that matter. it was warm and windy yesyerday, and today is gorgeous....but with 25mph wind. so, won't be able to scoot until monday when we get back into town. boohoo. hope everyone is enjoying some very nice rides, though! thanks for the advice on what to be on the lookout for while riding with the contacts!
