Going Green

Yesterday the greenifaction of my Sunset Orange Buddy began.

I took a mental health day from work (trust me I needed it and probably should do it more often). Among all the not-work-related stuff I did, I removed the front cowling from the Buddy and painted it dark green with Krylon fusion.

I like the results, my wife isn't so sure and my daughter says it looks spooky. At least it doesn't look like every other orange Buddy out there anymore.

Having done that, I think I have the painting bug and will no doubt be greening more of it soon.

While I was messing around, I rotated the DOT turn signals 45 degrees so the bar points forward. I might take the bar out entirely to go for something like the way they're mounted on the 07s.

I also took the Stebel air horn out of the box, but chickened out on installing it yesterday. I think I might try and solicit help on that project since it's kind of out of my comfort zone.

Pictures will follow later. My digital camera is in need of a new battery, but it's on the way.

Can't wait to see what it looks like, and sounds like, when you're done. I'm very curious about that horn. After seeing the way the DOT turn signals were mounted on the '07s, I remounted mine by removing the metal extension bar.

I'm going to do that too, I just wasn't sure how it would go without some kind of shim. Did you put anything in between?

I'm thinking of posting over at tenyearlates.com and seeing if I can get somebody who knows their way around the guts of a scooter more than me (which makes it almost everyone) to help me with the air horn. For some reason I am intimidated by the project.

Nope. Just removed the metal bar and screwed them back on. It's not a perfect fit but you can't tell. I guess you could put in a shim or something. I was inspired after our trip to Metro. Came home and had to do something.

Here's how it looks now, though the color is a little more green in person than it shows here.

You can also see where I've moved the DOT turn signals off the bars completely, just like SteMer did. He and I talked about that after we saw the 07 Buddys at Metro Scooter, but he did it first.

Missed you on the xyl ride yesterday, thought I was going to meet some other Buddy owners on my first xyl ride, I was the only Buddy there.

Thanks. I think it looks better in person.

I am probably going to do the front tire shield and the back section by the tail lights, leaving the center parts orange. The hardest part of this for me is that in order to paint, I need two things.
1. Good weather
2. Remove the parts for several hours

The problem with that scenario is if I take the parts off to paint them, I can't ride until it's done and set for a while.

I wanted to go on the XYL ride yesterday but had something more important to do. I did ride my scooter to/from said important thing, and it was gorgeous out. I was very tempted to take the long way home.

On my first (and so far only) XYL ride we had 4 Buddys. I expect there will be quite a few of us at WKRP. I want to try and get a Buddy group photo.

Nice job, Lobster. Green and orange, huh? I'll have to see it in person to really appreciate it. Your photo shows off the new placement of the turn signals really well.

I was bummed they moved the ride to Sunday morning. I'll bet it was an awesome day to ride, though. Well done representin' the buddys! I'm sure we'll meet at the rally, if not before.

I began to take some panels off the rear with the intent of greening them, but it started to look like I was going to have to remove more parts than I had time for that day. It will have to wait.

I do intend to put a clear coat on but haven't had a chance yet. Cold wet weather returned to Cincinnati. Spring is arriving this week so I hope to get it done before the WKRP rally.
