Easy as pie
When I bought mine, my dealer had me ride it up and down the alley behind the shop a few times to make sure I "got it." Then he showed me a few tricks and tips, and I was ready to roll. Literally.
However, because my Insurance office was closed and I couldn't secure coverage for the weekend (it was Saturday) he had it towed to my apartment for me. No, I didn't wait until Monday to take it for a spin around the 'hood - but I was careful

Steezy,
Congrats! Being nervous and scared to death at first is really a good thing. As stated here before, the Buddy is so easy to ride that overconfidence can lead to trouble. You will get this advice a lot here. Take the MSF course! It's worth the time and money because it could save your life. It's hard work but it's a fun course also.

Scooters are very easy to learn. If you can ride a bicycle, you can scoot. But, as others have already pointed out, be very careful during these first few months.
Motorcyclists are much more likely to have an accident in their first 4 years of riding than any other time. Frankly, I'm not very comfortable with those statistics transferring to scooters so I wouldn't let that stat bother me too much. But, it's still prudent to be extremely cautious while you're finding your "sea legs", so to speak.
So congrats and welcome to the fold.
