Modern Buddy

Ok i apologize in advance if it is annoying for me to start a whole new topic just to let you all know I just bought an 07 Buddy 125 about 2 hours ago, but I am way too excited not too! My wife and i decided to go down to one car and me get a scooter for my short commute a couple months ago. It took a little longer than I had hoped to sell my other car so I have been driving myself crazy researching everything I can about scoots and reading all of your posts for the past month or so. Now i get to join in for real! So happy. I had to come straight to work from the dealership so i am dying to go riding. Not gonna get to much work done today. Ill post picks tonight but like I said it is a 07 Black Buddy 125 and I got them to throw in the chrome rear rack. It had no miles on it, that is such a nice feeling! Anyway, i look forward to getting to know you all and customizing my scoot.

My wife and I are doing the same thing, and just about an hour ago I put in a deposit on a GTS. I like the Buddy a lot and it was a tough decision between the two, but since we're only going to have 1 car I opted for the more "flexible" GTS.

Anyway, I'm sharing your excitement right now!

Its hard to contain isnt it. I imagine i will have a good 30-40 miles on that thing before the days over.

Mickey, be prepared to have more fun than you are allowed to have with your pants on...

Hey we are doing the same thing. We got our buddy last week and our other car is on the market. We decided to go down to one car and the scoot. Maybe this will start catching on. We are a one car (well soon when it sells), one scoot and one dog family.

Mickey, I could turn you on to some pics of Isaac (Lou76) riding his Buddy with no pants on, but there are some things you are probably better off not witnessing...

did the same thing a week ago. now one wek later i already have 500 miles on it!!!

and in 6 months, you'll look at the odometer and see an alarming number. For me, it was 4700 miles.

Of course, then you do the mental gymnastics. 4700 / 80 mpg = 58.75 gallons * $2.25/gallon = $132.19 in gas. Then you do the same gymnastics about your car (in my case a Chrysler Pacifica 6cyl). 4700 / 15 mpg = 313.33 gallons * $2.25/gallon = $704.99 in gas. 704.99 - 132.19 = $572.80 savings in six months, not too mention the lower pollutants and other environmental stuff.

This doesn't even address the most important things, like the improved quality of life, not being stuck in teh cage. The ear to ear grin every time you get on of or off the scooter. The improvement in your relationship with the other half since 'running to the store for milk and kotex' is no longer a chore (buying kotex for the spouse still sucks, but the ride makes it worth it).

i will have it known that i removed much more than my pants on that ride... and although you shouldn't ever do it because its dangerous and irresponsible, riding a buddy in your "man-panties" through winding mountain roads populated with faux-cyclists on shiny, 100milesayear harleys is downright exhilerating.... but stupid... and watch for big arizona-dinosaur-bugs...

FWIW, I have had about 40 scooters over time, including Vespa, Honda, Bajaj, etc. I have had about 150 motorcycles.

When I went into the local dealer to get another Bajaj Chetak [which is a Vespa in disguise, for 1/3 the price] I was shown the 125 Buddy. Took it for a test drive too.

I then went home and researched for hours.

Bottom line, I was so impressed with the Buddy's fit/finish/performance that this weekend we are buying two of the 2007 limited edition Italia.

Bonus Bottom Line: You made a good decision.

I purchased my Buddy in Pensacola, FL last July. The ride (I love it that I don't drive this vehicle...I ride it!) home to Gulf Breeze is about 10 miles and 3.5 of that across the Hwy 98 Pensacola Bay Bridge. I had my wife lead the way and set out with excitement and a little trepidation riding such a small thing with the big boys on the open road...(My wife drives a Ford Expedition SUV). So I'm about 3/4 across the bridge enjoying the view, spied some porpoise off my starboard side, I've got it wide open doing 60mph (according to the spedo anyway) and I see in my left mirror (yeah they work kind of) this rice rocket about 1/2 mile behind in the left lane coming up fast at about 3 tragillion miles per hour......so he blows by me and then.....stands on the brake for a micro second slowing from warp 10 to 80...to 65....to match my speed...checks me out...waves...then hits warp speed again while doing a wheelie!

It was definitely a moment.

One more quick one. Wifey and I take Buddy over to Pensacola Beach for some grub, its dusk, beautiful evening, I pull up to the first (and only) light after the bridge over the intercoastal right next to a monster HOG rider with his B***H on the back and the roar is deafening. He turns to me and yells "Beautiful Night For A Ride Isn't It" with a big grin. I beam back, give him the thumbs up and the light changes....ROAR, putter....all is well in the world.

Yeah we are all in the riders club. Some bigger and louder but all very very cool. Welcome.

Adding an image to a post
phpBB BBCode incorporates a tag for including images in your posts. Two very important things to remember when using this tag are: many users do not appreciate lots of images being shown in posts and second, the image you display must already be available on the Internet (it cannot exist only on your computer, for example, unless you run a webserver!). Ok I am not familiar with that way of adding pictures so i will just do the attatchment thing for now till I can sit down and figure it out the other way (may be a while since every spare moment I have is spent in the saddle!) I now have about 70 miles on her and love it about 70 times more than mile one! Most of my day today was spent straining a chest we bought at an unfinished furniture store (very cheap way to get nice stuff, higly reccomend it) but in between coats I was able to do a couple of simple mods. I wired the DOT/OEM signals to flash together, got some simple chrome valve stem caps (pic) and added a digital clock/thermometer. Like i said simple, but still was very enjoyable. In shopping for the parts I came up with many more ideas I plan on doing later when funds allow. As i said before though next up is reworking my rear rack for my nylon bag.

hey, i have that same exact clock/thermometer in exactly the same spot! aren't we smart. i attached with velcro tape in case i needed to remove it for weather reasons, but have not needed to yet. i have had it in for about 5 months and it is holding up just fine. if you park in the direct sun, and the sun beats down on your clock for a while the display will act wanky for a bit, but should bounce back to normal. that has happened to me a few times. congrats on your scoot, you will be very happy with it.

I bought myself the cream one and my girlfriend the pink one. She got the wicker basket and I got the chrome front rack.

We love them!

I never thought I would enjoy it so much, coming from a yamaha YZF600 and several other sport bikes, but I'm having a blast riding it! It's a whole different feel.

I look forward to many miles logged on my new Buddy!

Congrats on the purchases. Buying two is a hoot, isn't it.

As to the blast in riding a Buddy, I think part of it is being so used to all
the "work" in riding a motorcycle, riding the Buddy is like hopping on a
toy. I can't get over the twist and go aspect. And I keep pressing the
floorboard for the rear brake.
