Buddy has a sweet spot?

Can a Buddy develop a sweet spot? I went for a nice long WOT ride today and it seems that ever since my long WOT Amerivespa ride, my Buddy seems to really like being ridden WOT. It just settles in and purrs, like it has a sweet spot. Or maybe I've just got speed fever... :goofy:

I'm glad it's not just me. I seem to ride WOT regardless of posted speed limited providing the road is clear. I don't even notice what speed I'm going it just feels right. I have to then slow it down when I realize I'm cruising way over the allowed speed limit.

My scoot seems to be most comfy at around 60mph on the straights. it just purrs like the kitten it is.

Ha! Did I search? Of course not! :)

My situation sounds a little different though because it's not that my scooter runs rough at any speed, it doesn't. It runs great at all speeds. But (OK this will sound weird) it just wants to go WOT. Maybe I'm just slowly loosing my mind (not at all an impossibility)... It could be that the extended Amerivespa ride at WOT just broke the engine in at a different RPM so now it likes running at that speed? Heck, I don't know... :P

I've thought that, too. We ride out to see Zac's and my parents in Simi almost every weekend, and have to ride out on the 118 "safety corridor"- basically a two-lane highway through the orange groves and stuff. (AWESOME ride) We both WOT most of the way out, and once El Jefe reaches warp speed, he seems to kind of settle in and just buzz right along.

That's what I'm talking about! Kind of like the scooter is enjoying finally getting to stretch its legs :)

It seems I've read a lot here about a sweet spot just before WOT - especially for smooth and maximum acceleration. I know that's where my Italia likes to be- just a hair before WOT. So I'd agree that there is a sweet spot.

When I am trying to get maximum speed (like on the Amerivespa ride) I constantly feather the throttle - going from a couple of seconds at WOT, to just a hair below for a second, then back to WOT. That seemed to get me and extra few mph. So could be we're talking about the same thing.

[Funny, yesterday when riding I remembered how when I very first got my Buddy and started scooting, I felt so brave when I dared to ride at WOT for a whole 15 seconds or something! My how things have changed :) ]

Granted I have only been riding for a little over a week, but I bought my Buddy 50 broken in. It seems to prefer being WOT more than it does cruising at less.

Yeah, WOT and screaming is my Buddy's sweet spot 8)

I do notice that while I don't have a throttle position sweet spot, I do
have a speed sweet spot. It pulls hard from 0 to 30, then gets a bit lazy, then once I hit 50 it SCREAMS its way to about 75, then pulls up from there slowly...

Getting to those last few mph's I swear I can hear my Buddy saying "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..."

Hah! Totally. It just keeps eeking a little bit more and a little bit more till it finally can't give anymore at 88. Got some looks at the Triumph ride I was at this morning when I told them it'd go that fast :)

I still can't imagine going 88mph. Dang Kaos! I mean really. I got up to maybe 75mph absolute best (downhill, wind at my back, song in my heart...) coming back form Amerivespa and yesterday, when I was out trying to bury the speedo again, I was thinking I must have been on some way crazy Amerivespa adrenaline to do just that!

Still, I certainly did enjoy the look of surprise on one Harley riders face yesterday as he got passed by a scooter going about 65... that never gets old

It'll definately get your heart pumping :)

That look is probably tied for number 1 most entertaining thing my vehicles can do. The other one being setting off a bunch of car alarms by rumbling past in my drag-wagon :) There's just something so satisfying about both :D

My Buddy 150 hums a happy song around an indicated 50 mpg. Because the speedo is optimisted that's about a true 45.

My experience is pretty much like this. I think this discussion is mostly about the riders sweet spot.
