Finally, my maiden voyage

Well, the wind let up some today, and I could coordinate my schedule and transportation, and I picked up my new scoot and have now ridden it home, along that 55mph state road, and down the 1 1/4 miles of dirt to my house. I'm afraid I didn't follow the recommended break in formula (don't exceed 60kph for the first 1000k: 60kph is only about 36mph. How can I commute at THAT speed?), and ran at WOT a lot of the way. No problem keeping up with the speed limits - mostly, there are some hills that slowed things down
some. The bike rides great, nice and smooth on those big 16" wheels. I see with absolute clarity the wisdom of giving up any illusion that a 150cc bike will do well at freeway speeds. It just can't do it at all, except downhill of course.

I can also imagine how easy it would be to get used to higher speeds on a bigger bike, something I wouldn't have thought for myself. Still, for now, while I learn, this will do just fine., and maybe for longer too. Part of me wants to keep things a little slowed down.

You've all been great with your input, comments, suggestions, opinions, experiences. I truly appreciate it.

By the way, the 30 mile aspect wasn't a problem at all. The bike feels comfortable enough, with no discernible problems thus far.

Awesome! Glad to hear you found two wheels that fit. The break in period is the worst, how can you find enough miles (at under 36 mph) to follow the manual to the T. Good luck and enjoy.

I took a lot of alternates to the alternate routes (which might not exist where you are). It took a lot of extra time getting places, but I found some nice roads in the middle of the DC burbs. :D

There are, however, other ideas about break in. A search should bring them up.
