Winter Gloves. Any you have hated? Any you have loved?

I am about to buy some good Winter Gloves. My River Road Cheyenne Cold Weather gloves are crap.
I have it narrowed down to the Firstgear TPG Glacier gloves or the Tourmaster Winter Elite.
The Glaciers appeal to me since they are made to work with heated grips and I have Oxford Heaterz on my scoot.
The Tourmasters sound good since they are heavily insulated and have the additional wind cover that stores in the gauntlet.
Thought I would cast a net out there for comments.
I also thought a new thread would be good since there are some new gloves out there.
Anyone?

Have some Nitro gloves which are good, but have Nitro mittens which are better and I can still operate controls well. Mittens keep my fingies nice and toasty except the very tips.

I have some cortech scarab winter gloves with thinsulate. They work great down to about 40, but after that they get cold. I think I'll pick up some pogies this winter:)

Yeah, I'm fine down to the low 30's. It's that 25 - 35 degree range that I'm trying to beat!

I recently ordered some CKX Power Grip snowmobile gloves, it will be a while before it
will be cold enough here to test them, but I'll be sure to give a review when I do.

I use the Tour Master Polar-tex gloves.
They work down into the low 40's windchill.
They are super comfortable and I love how you can still feel switches, ect.
"So flexible you can pick up a dime!" uh...no.
Tour Master also makes a Polar Fleece Glove Liner.
I think I'll try those this Winter.

Oh you are just taunting us. These look cozy, but I don't think we can get them here in the US. My internet search hit all UK sites. Oh well.

You may not find those exact ones, but there are a few other 3-finger snowmobile mittens if you search around a bit.

Find some good windproof & waterproof 5-finger ski gloves. If they'll work on a mountain top they'll surely work riding your scooter.
My favorite brand is Grandoe, found at most quality ski/sport shops. They've kept my hands dry in pouring rain storms and warm skiing in below freezing temps. Excellent gloves.

I actually find that no "gloves" are warm enough. Ski mittens and snowmobile mittens are warm, but they are also made for falling in the snow, not falling on a road. I have a pair of ski mittens, got them at TJ Maxx for $10, but it would be nice to have something motorcycle specific, in my opinion. Almost no gloves fit me right anyway. I ended up getting a pair of leather Carhartt gloves to wear as mid-weather gloves because of the fit issues I have with MC gloves.

There's a pair on ebay in Medium size at the moment, if you ask they might ship to the states.

In the winter I'll ride if the road is clear and it's at least 30 F. No gloves really keep my fingers warm at 30 degrees, although last winter I used snowboarding gloves that were fairly warm. This year I'm hoping the handlebar covers will help keep my digits warm enough- especially now that I have a longer commute (6.5 miles instead of 2.5 miles).
The local bike shop also sells heated handgrips.

Cool, I will look into it, although medium is probably too big. I fit best in a men's small or sometimes x-small, but I will keep an eye out. I have orderd from U.K. ebay before.

Just bought a pair of Velocita gloves from Corazzo. They're comfortable but can't speak to how warm they'll keep me yet. It's going to be in the 80's this week!

Hey blue,
If there's a BMW motorcycle dealer near you, they may carry Hein-Gericke stuff.
Here's the US site to try to find a local shop. Not sure how up-to-date it is.
http://www.heingericke-usa.com/
Or if you know anyone in the US military stationed in Germany, they could ship 'em over to you using AFO/FPO.

Thanks for the info, looks like there is a dealer north of here, about 30 miles or so. Sounds like a ride to me.

I work out side, a Land Surveyor, I'm out in all sorts of weather and have been riding no matter what the weather is except for when there is snow on the roads. I NEED finger dexterity so mittens, though warmer are out! I've picked up a pair of old style millitary D-3A gloves with the wool liner, and for some extra wind and rain protection I put a pair of latex 'exam' gloves on between the liner and the shell. Works great for me!

Whatever you do, make sure the ones you get won't stretch out with wear. My first pair of riding gloves was a pair of size M Joe Rockets for winter, and after four months they stretched out beyond any use. Turns out I need a size S, and in some brands XS! Live and learn.

I just bought these from newenough.com. 53 bucks. So far they're fantastic, they seem to be completely windproof, and have been toasty on the few days its been mid 30's so far this season. I'd think they'd go well below low 40's, as at 43 degrees, my hands were sweating. Though I'd imagine it depends on what's cold for you.
I'll second the super comfortable. I've wanted to wear them more than my usual fall FirstGear gloves, because they're wicked comfortable.

Hmm...I like this jacket, but it's cotton. Do you think it will offer enough protection, even with the armor? I was leaning towards getting a leather jacket.

That jacket is so cute! Although, I wouldn't trust cotton even with armor. For textiles, I'd get something like cordura that is more abrasion resistant.

Today, I just picked up a pair of these for winter: The Corazzo Winter Gauntlet Glove.
http://corazzo.net/?q=node/218
Can't give you much feedback since I've only ridden with them one hour. So far they are comfortable and warm. The Corazzo staff assured me they are waterproof and fine for a cold winter. These are made for winters nationwide and not just Portland's mild cold.
I sometimes wear a medium glove though usually a large; depends on the cut of course. I bought the large. Corazzo has sizing charts online.
I'm returning a pair of the Fieldsheer AquaSport gloves lined with thinsulate that I bought from the Motorcycle Superstore. On my second time riding in the rain they became soaked, cold, and the liner portion which is only partially attached to the fingers became bunched up on the inside and would not form to my cold numb fingers as I was putting it on again. Twenty six hours later, the glove was still wet.
EDIT: I've ridden a second time with them in temps that ranged around 45-50 degrees while riding 30-45mph. So far so good.

Ms Kady,
A high quality leather jacket with quality armor is great.
Separately, if having some good style along with top level armor protection is important to you, have you looked at Corazzo that specializes in scooter clothes and accessories?
Here is a link to their woman's jackets:

I bought these Olympia winter gloves two years ago...

They are not warm at all,,, the wind comes through,,, they do repell water well... down below 30 they are just about useless...
Next winter pair i get will have a insert....

I have been using the CKX gloves a bit and so far I like them a lot. Very soft inside and breatheable (do not make my hands sweat),
yet they don't let any wind in either. I've only ridden with them so far in low 50's so that's not very cold, but compared to my mesh
gloves that I wore all last winter, these are a dream... and cheap too! Like 20 bucks.

Since its started getting colder i've been riding w/a pair of Burton snow boarding gloves. They have a fleece liner which I pulled out until it gets real cold. Over all they're pretty comfortable and keep my hands really warm, however they offer almost no protection in the event of blah blah blah.

about a year ago I talked to a local dealer who was on the hein gericke list, he said that the distributor had gone south or has cut back a large amount. I was looking to pick up a pair of their gloves, their leather jackets are really great quality and a pretty good price too. I'll be down in OC for thanksgiving, maybe I'll check to see if they have a store front too.

Ooh! Ooh! I have questions! Since you are roughly the same demographic as me (female and resident of the Pacific Northwet), I'd like to know more. It looks like these are still available so:
- How do they really hold up in the rain? Do they keep your hands dry and warm? Do the gloves stay dry enough to shake off an pop them into storage, or do they need to be dried out in between rides?
-What's the lowest temperature you've used them in and how did they hold up?
- How much do the gauntlets stretch? They look vary narrow. My current gloves really don't fit very well over my jacket sleeves. I'd like something bigger in that department.
Thanks!

They hold up well in the rain, but I hang them to dry at the end of the day and/or while at work. While at a rally, I may put them under the seat. They do gain a little weight with the rain. My hands stay dry excluding the rare exception a raindrop finds a way to get inside because my glove was not tucked in my jacket.
pdxrita wrote:

I'm going to say high 30's. My hands did get cold. On those days, I carry the gloves in my hand bag when I stop at a store.
pdxrita wrote:

If they have stretched, it would be minimal. They boxed fingers may seem like they stretched in the width of the fingers.
To me, they are super soft so I'm able to curl my fingers into a tight fist. With Gore-tex, it's difficult to form a fist. They may loosen up over time, but I'm not sure.
