I was in Julian CA today and ran into these. They owner purchased old vintage bumper cars, restored them, added a motorcycle engine.
All street legal.

That's possibly the coolest type of vehicle I have ever seen.

That is so insanely cool! I think I'd prefer one lower to the ground though.

I can't find a web site for the builder. All the articles I found refer to a builder outside of San Diego. One says these things sell for $50,000 a piece! They are sweet looking though.
This site

has restored bumper cars as well. Check out the video they have. Looks they put electric motors in them. They are cruising around a gas station parking lot. Original steering configuration. That would be wild!

Yes, they are all street legal. The owner has 8 all together and they were not for sale. The guy I talk to said they all had engines from 750-1000ccs. Most will do freeway speeds. One they had it on the dyno at 110mph. They are registered as cars.
The owner lives within San Diego County. Somewhere.

Man those are the coolest things I have seen in a long time! Boy would I love to have one. If you think scooters create a lot of smiles as they go riding by, imagine being in one of those bumper cars! What fun.

I've been wondering what I should do with the motor of my recently deceased scooter - now I just need to find a bumper car.
