When a buddy 50 turns 70 a carb that make the difference

Post by mojobuddy70cc »

,,ok i have stayed in the background on this topic on purpose. tweaking my 70 kit w/ my club-guru and really using his Lambretta 50 (81cc) kit upgrade as a model.I ride my scoot 200+ mi a week. work, etc and these were some of the problems:
1. overheating and seizing, due to lack of oil/coolant, (genuine admits this
was not advised early on),now 2oz of 2T oil per tank.to assist in the "trickle" the onboard oil pump puts out on a Buddy 50.
2. stalling on open road driving for more than 7 miles or so depending on heat/temps. this would cause cooling issues due to lack of fuel ( yes fuel)
the 50cc carb can not deliver on a steady run distance at speeds of 40 mph.
( the bike will run faster but this is cruising speed) The problem is solved w/the
installation of an Arreche 21mm carb.-see link- ( order jets from 60,65,70,75,etc thru 95) they are cheap and much easier to get the right tuning/adjustments., than trying to pick them up.
you mpg will suffer but the price you pay for the kit performance, the stock carb w/ kit is about 70mpg. So the carb solves this issue w/ the open road
cruising overheating issues.
Please spare me the "warranty issues" at this point, another topic entirely.
,ok given these problems solved the stage 1 &2 kit buddy now flies along
on club rides @ 45mph cruising speed, top speed is 55+( classified,LOL),
just not abusing the great pick up it has.
I have some extra $$ in this bike but now that it is tuned right and one of the only ones in my area it is worth it.,i also get some questions about
"what kinda scooter is that??""
3. i have read some issues on the Prima pipes, my pipe came on my bike
but given the kit burning a bit more oil it =more exhaust "gunk" that will clog the "wrapping" in the top exhaust pipe ( w/ prima logo)., 3 screws and a mounting bolt and unwrap the noise/wraping and clean it every 1000mi or so w/ brake cleaner, it evaporates quickly. ( if it seem too burned just cut it w/a razor knife. let it dry and rewrap. ahh ot breathes soooo much better, otherwise it just gets clogged and runs thru as a straight pipe.
you UNI filter will love you for it.,oh did i mention you need a $19.00 UNI filter for the kit to breathe properly? ez fix, a new jet and Wow!.
( for a stock carb).
So people ask why all the trouble? why the extra$$? I just know it feels great and dependable now. don`t let anyone tell you that it is just a slap it on and go thing, it wasn`t for me anyway.I wanted to share this @ length to help folks w/ questions about kits.
Here are some pics of this great Arreche 21mm carb:

also i order from www.scooter-attack.com
very cool site for the euro-scooter scene where kitting is quite the thing.

on my last ride i saw a Sym w/ a malossi 70 kit have major heating issues, dude showed me heat warped spark -plug*
Also for this 70cc malossi kit you will need to run a cooler plug, ngk 9 instead of a "7".
* and yes sorry to hear about ear damage, i use sony ear wraps for my iphone tunes,, better than the wind/noise., uses a polo style helmet, but getting helo-pilot soon.
