Doing it with scooters... would be missing the point. Sure, scooterists face hazards on the roads, and save fuel compared to cars... but not like bicyclists. The idea here is to open the roads to people who are unable to use them the rest of the week, to encourage them to get more exercise. From that perspective, a scooter is just another motor vehicle.

they've been doing much the same in San Francisco lately, closing roads in GG park on sundays and along the embarcadero from time to time. Also SF has Critical Mass and San Jose now has SJ Bike Party monthly. http://www.sjbikeparty.org/ it's a fun night ride with over 2000 attending. I would be much happier about my move to LA if something like this were to go through.

They do this in Bogota, Colombia every Sunday for bikers and runners. A really cool idea that helps cut down on the pollution.
