I too, would like to thank all for their service. You mean a lot to me.

In fact, yesterday (Nov. 11) was my 234th birthday!!! The Marine Corps was born in the back of Tun Tavern on November 11th, 1775!! To all my Marine Corp brothers and sisters out there...SEMPER FI!!

Far be it from me to take anything away from the proud and honorable history of the US Marine Corps. I do have to mention though, that the modern Navy and Marine Corp were formed in 1798 following the earlier disbanding of the Continental Navy and Marines in 1783. The Revenue Service, the first element of the modern Coast Guard was formed in 1790. Hence, as all coasties know, the US Coast Guard is the oldest sea going armed service of the US. It includes some of the bravest and most dedicated men and women it has ever been my honor to know. Thank you for your service. Semper Paratus.

Then why did you? The Marines celebrate November 10, 1775 as their birthday...why do you feel it necessary to disrupt that?

...and yes, it IS Nov. 10th....my finger slipped. Sorry.

I wasn't aware that I disrupted anything. And I thought I was pretty clear about why I brought it up (and it certainly wasn't to cast any doubt on the fine and honorable service individual Marines have rendered to this Nation). If the Marine Corp and individual Marines wish to trace their beginnings and heritage back to the formation of the first unit of Continental Marines in 1775, that is certainly fine by me. It does not, however, change the fact that the US Marine Corp was formed by an Act of Congress in 1798 entitled "Establishing and Organizing a Marine Corps".

That was the SECOND time they were formed. Not the first.
