Ride out to Swordfish Cave

Took the scoot for a 22 mile round trip out to Swordfish cave today. Swordfish cave is at the end of Miguelito Cyn rd., which I took a night ride on a while back, but didn't go out to the cave because..... well, I would have been walking through the chaparral at night, and that would suck. Anyways, the place is a very, very, very rare bit of CA history that you can actually walk right into. The cave was first occupied about 3,500 years ago and was used right up until the Spanish invasion. Petroglyphs and pictographs are all over the walls, but of course have faded through the years. There is no fence or gate that keeps you from walking into the cave, and they have even provided a small bench for you to sit and take in the view of the cave.

Miguelito Cyn rd. is a real piece of work and I'll figure out a way to get my camera, my flip, or my video camera to mount on the scoot, so I can take a .avi of the road for you folks to enjoy.

Here are a few pics:

The scoot and the warning sign! Yes, you must go onto a military installation to get to the cave.

Looks like a lot of fun-thanks for sharing! :D

Was it a dirt road most of the way?

Could be the cave would be kind of interesting at night...often those caves have bats living inside and having swarms of them coming out could be kind of neat...if you weren't in their path, that is!

Way cool! Is that out by Lompoc? I was looking for it on a map. Could make for a fun group ride up from LA...

Cool. I'm thinking a ride to the caves, or to the wineries, or to the motorcycle museum... or all of the above. It's all good!

Yes, it is all good. Foxen cyn (the wineries) is a great road. The MC museum is nice, a bit overpriced, but there are some bikes there that are pure drool material.

Although, the Buddy 50 that I have will not roll on those roads, so I'll have to take the MC.
