Scooter Vacation

Hi! I'd like to go someplace warm this winter for vacation (probably by air w/o my scooter) and I'd also like to perhaps incorporate scootering into the trip somehow. Does anyone know of any places that offer rental scooter tours or anything like that?

Bermuda is totally awesome for scooting, beaches, and everything else. One of my favorite places on earth. You can ride around the entire island. I've definitely enjoyed some great beach time there over the xmas season but it is sub-tropical rather than tropical, so check that the weather is to your liking.

St. Maarten is also really nice. I was there last year over xmas..

I was actually looking at Bermuda. It does look really nice. But do they drive on the left side of the road? That might take a little getting used to. How is the traffic otherwise?

Oahu (Honolulu) has scooter rentals. So does Key West. I have seen them in Cozumel, but there is only one main rd and everyone drives like a bat out of hell-why is it in Latin countries the only thing done fast is driving??.

I hear you about wanting a scooter vacation. I really miss riding in the winter and even a day rental puts me back in a happy place even though I am wearing a sweaty gross rental helmet.

Definitely look at a map (and climate info) before going to Bermuda; contrary to what many people assume, it's well north of the Caribbean.

I wouldn't worry too much about scooting on the left; I adjusted pretty easily to pedaling on the left when I biked Great Britain years ago.

I had no problem with it. Pretty much a non issue. Beautiful rides all over the island!

St. Martin is awesome. French culture on one side of the island, Dutch on the other. Don't know about scooter rental, though.

I always thought it would be cool to scoot the Florida Keys. I've done the Overseas Highway in a car and it was awesome. Google Fort Jefferson if you want a cool day trip.

I have been to St Martin a few times and do not recall seeing a scooter rental. ALso I remember the roads were pretty bad and there was a lot of sand on them. Nevertheless it is one of my favorite islands

California is great almost all of the time and you can rent a Buddy at Route 66 in Marina del Rey.

I've been to and rented scooters at a couple of places mentioned by others. Last winter we went to Key West in Feb. Someone on this forum recommended renting scoots at a place called the Moped Hospital. We rented a couple of small scoots for a very reasonable weekly rate. Key West is a great area to scoot, but it is rather limited in terms of range. You are basically limited to the Old Town area, many restaurants, bars, some nice beaches, Mallory Square for the sunset and street entertainers, etc. But for many of the other places you might want to go, namely the other Keys, you'll probably want to travel by car. All that being said, I thnk we're going back to Key West this winter ... although my wife and women in the group are starting to lean toward a cruise, so who knows. Also, there are tons of scoots in Key West with some very interesting designs. I think I posted a few of them on this forum. If I can find that post, I'll drop a link to it.

We were also at St. Martin a couple of winters ago and rented both ATVs and scooters for a day. I not %100 certain, but I believe the place we rented from was called St. Marteen Scooter rentals, something like that. Some very scenic rides there and I enjoyed the scootering there more than the Keys, but overall, I had a better time in Key West.

I think you were inquiring more about "scooter tours" more so than rental places. I haven't heard of any of those per se, but I'd just suggest doing a little upfront research and then winging it.

Here's link to a thread about Key West.

I thought I has more or my scoot pics there, but I must have been too lazy to post most of them. But a couple of others posted some very nice pics. It might give you an idea of what to expect.

PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA: We'll put you on one of our rental Buddy 50 or 150.

We have scooter tour maps of mid-century neighborhoods, celebrity houses and modernist buildings. We have over 100 hiking trails throughout the area too. We are definitely a "great outdoors" holiday vacation spot!

In 2010, we're planning monthly scooter rides for local riders and our tourist guests alike. Probably a Sunday 9am-1pm with a lunch.

Stay at the new cool hip Ace Hotel too.

Zoot Scoot in Estes Park, Colorado rents scooters. But Estes Park is not warm this time of year. I've yet to take my Buddy into Rocky Mountain National Park but it's something I want to do. Just maybe when there's less snow on the ground. ;)

Bermuda is absolutely wonderful, though expensive. If you're on a budget, consider New Orleans, where a LOT of people get around the narrow streets on two wheels and rentals are definitely available. It is wet but warm, and surprisingly affordable (especially if you don't go during one of the big music festivals). My wife and I love it there; we try to go one or two times a year for a long weekend.
