When I was a kid, I saw a missile launch cause this rainbow ring in the sky... saw it shooting upwards, and when it hit a certain altitude, POOF!... what was probably a circular formation of ice crystals in the air, refracting sunlight into a rainbow ring.

I thought test missles always carried a "self-destruct" mechanism so they could be destroyed in the event of a dangerous failure. I wonder if this missle had one and it didn't work or if they chose not to use it in the hope of recovering the wreck or if they didn't bother with a a self-destruct mechanism since the test was over the ocean or what?KCScooterDude wrote:The Russians admitted it was a missile test. Over the White Sea, not land. They had denied it first. I like the Dr. Who idea though.
P.S. Love the Dr Who idea.

Interesting timing don't ya think? It's an intercontinental missle that has had similiar trouble before but they try again while Obama is in the area to get that worthless piece of tin called the Nobel Peace Prize.
Sorry, not ment to be a political post, but the timing was just too coincidental to be anything but a political ploy.

Hey, times are tough. Explosives are expensive. BTW, once the shuttle is mothballed the only way to get to and from the space station is going to be a rocket built by these same engineers. If we only had a Tardis!jrsjr wrote:I thought test missles always carried a "self-destruct" mechanism so they could be destroyed in the event of a dangerous failure. I know, right? In the old days this would have been cause to go to defcon eight-thousand and prep for the end of the world. Instead, we got bushwhacked by a handful of guys with box cutters and a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Crazy, isn't it?irishtim wrote:Phew, it was only a Russian Missle. I thougt it was really something to be worried about!
