I'm not officially working today but did a little blogging and other light work earlier.
My wife is working a bit, probably because she's bored. No family around. Most of today is watching bad movies on cable followed by a nice dinner. As we usually have laptops in front of us and are working in some capacity while we watch TV, work just sort of seems to somehow happen at times.

They still do chip fab in the US?!rajron wrote:Not only did I have to work today – it was an exceptionally busy day; just got out of the FAB for a quick break, and prepare for the next shift. I work in Semi Conductor Manufacturing – we run 24/7, jus so you all can have nice computers.
Do you work in a clean room? For some reason, the first time I read about them, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world, like working in space only on dry land.

ericalm;
Just had Christmas Dinner – Yumm yumm
Yes here in the USA we still make chips.
I contract work for the worlds largest Micro Processor manufacture in the world, who dwarf all competitors, making the best processors the world.
But, where I’m at we make processors, in Silicone Valley there are still many other smaller fabs making all sorts of chips – of course a lot of the work is going overseas; and there are several other Mecca’s around the states, but, by far the largest concentration of fabs, in the USA, is in the Bay area. The last company I worked for still design the chips, but the chip manufacturing is actually done overseas, sad but the labor and other expenses are so much less its hard to overlook that costs saving advantage.
Bunny suits have been the way of my life for way too long – I thought it was really cool to suit up when I first started in the industry, but, now …………. I feel much differently; it’s a job, though during allergy season it’s great.
edit: took a comment out

rajron, it sounds like you work for the only real winner in the OS wars. If so, that company (this sounds like a TV game show, where you aren't allowed to give the name because the show doesn't want to encourage free advertising) also has continued quite a presence in Phx metro, much to our collective pleasure.
I also work for a chip design and manufacturing company, one that had fabs in New York and San Antonio, both now closed, alas. Clean, however, is definitely not in the job description of your average sysadmin.
