Parking Permits and scooters

My university parking regulations say that it is a violation to park without displaying a valid permit. I have a permit, but cannot work out how to "display" it on the scoot without having it walk off with the first unscrupulous passerby. I don't know that they'd actually ticket for this, since it's my spot and no one else is going to be complaining, presumably, but in this budget environment I wouldn't put it past them to start issuing more tickets to raise money. I have to take the permit (a hangtag) with me anyway to get into the parking lot (it has a barcode that triggers the gate).

So ... anyone work out a way to securely "display" a permit on a Buddy?

I'd track down someone from campus security or whoever's going to be enforcing this and talk to them about it. Explain you're not trying to get avoid getting a permit, but you don't want your permit stolen because there's no real way to attach the permit to your scooter. They might have some suggestions for you.

My school gave me a sticker... the kind that need to go inside a windshield. It now lives in my pet carrier and hasn't been an issue. I wouldn't worry about it. If you get ticketed go explain y ou have a permit.

I was bad last semester.

I didn't register my scooter. If anyone asked, I said the parking sticker was on my car.

Check in with your campus security (or parking people if they're not the same) and ask them what to do. If you need the tag to get into the lot, then they know you're paying. They're only using the tag once inside the lot to be able to contact you if there's a problem (parked illegally or someone hits your vehicle). If they know who you are, then it shouldn't be a problem. At least that's how it works on my campus. Be nice to the staff and they'll be nice to you. A box of munchkins from the DunkiDo goes a long way.

I'm betting they don't want you to risk getting it stolen either.

Perhaps a photocopy of the permit (without showing the barcode or anything that could be used if stolen). If it gets stolen, no real loss, yet it shows you tried (and that their system needs work).

well, on campus, i see some bikes/scooters with stickers, i have a sticker but once in a while i see some with a permit as you would hang on your rearview mirror...they just wedge it on the seat or so

i would just wedge it in the seat and if someone passerby steals it, report it stolen, and i think you would get a replacement, or my school campus does

Rosa, that gives me an idea. If it's a hangtag type, you could laminate it or sandwich/seal it between thick plastic, then punch a hole so you can take advantage of the helmet/bag hooks under the seat. Not proof against someone cutting it off, but at least it's not pick-up-and-walk-off vulnerable.

At UNM most motorcycle and scooter riders put their permits on the bottom front fork, rider left.
