Modern Buddy

While over here in The Sandbox I have wired up a bunch of MRAP's with HID lights for route clearance. They seem to be pretty power hungry, but keep in mind, these are for trucks the size of a semi.
Anyway, I love the fact that they turn night into day, and I was wondering if anyone has seen any ballasts that aren't just crazy high amperage for motorcycles or scooters.
Light saves lives over here. We also have these new lights that are 24volt LED's. They are super crazy bright and use very little amperage, but the units are proprietary to our light kits. I know that there are some off road applications in 12 volt, but they are like ours in the fact that they are a whole assembly, not just a bulb. Any ideas?? I don't need a route clearance kit bolted to my scoot, but I would like something a little more potent than just a Silverstar bulb.

There's a plethora of HID discussions. The general consensus is that the startup draw on the electrical system (light fires as engine turns over) is a bad thing, but the running current draw is the same as stock for a much brighter output. Aiming it is also a difficulty and the Hi/Low functionality isn't so good on the HID kits where it's all in a single package (to replace the dual filament lamps).

PIAA makes a high output lamp that draws 35w, but I think that the Silverstar might be about the same brightness.

LMC summed it up nicely. Even with a relay setup to draw power from the battery the 2t scooter just doesn't make enough power to run the HID and keep your battery charged. I know, tried and found out the expensive way. I use the PIAA bulb now. Electrosport sells off road HID setups for dirtbikes that are nice, but no guarantee that the same low power problem wouldn't occur. You can get some running time out of the setup if you put a larger battery in and charge it after each ride...
