Has any one purchased a Buddy 125 frame?

Post by crackerman »

Just picked up a 09' buddy 125 for real cheap. It only has 500 miles on it but its got a salvage title from a front end accident. I was hoping the frame was good and I coulda got it back together for about $400 worth of parts from http://www.scooterloungeonline.com/genuinebuddyparts

Got it today and pulled it apart. Front end of the neck part of the frame is shaqed so frame is toast. Kinda expected that but still worth what I paid as the rest of the bike is in good shape. I'd like to put together a price list of what I need and if somewhere around $800 with the new frame, it might be worth it to fix it. If not I'll be listing it for parts. Looks like scooterloungeonline doesn't have the frame. I guess I'll contact Buddy directly. Anyone ever order a frame?

I'll be posting pics shortly.

The frame is tied to the VIN number so that's not something that's available to buy. If you buy a frame, you're buying the titleable part of the vehicle, or simply stated, you're buying a whole vehicle - running or not.

You might do well if you find a Buddy that's engine has blown out of warranty and making a whole scoot out of the parts. You'll have to have it titled under the good frame's VIN number though.

Parts bikes are great, especially something like the Buddy. It's small, and you can completely build out the engine while it's off the bike. That way, when you get a frame, you can plug that sucker right in and go.

I am trying to contact scooterlounge.com to see if they sell frames, as they do sell buddy 50 frames for $300. If I can get a new frame for $350 it looks like it'll cost me about another $350-450. So somewhere around $800. I'll keep my eye out for a used one with a blown motor.

scooterlounge.com just got back to me. They contacted Geniune and were told they do not sell frames due to liability. So that option is gone. Any one selling a Buddy with a blown engine? Listing the bike as parts if anyone is interest.
