Outriggers

Need a little help here. I've got a scooter friend whose husband has some balance issues with his scooter. Some time back I saw something that sort of converted a scoot into a trike. You keep the rear wheel but the back of the bike sits between two wheels, almost like a trailer.

Does any remember seeing something like that. There was even a pic of one here on MB but it was a year or so ago.

Thanks
Howard

Ya sure, You betcha! Try www.tow-pacinc.com or call 866-694-3500. See the ad on page 73, Scoot Magazine, Issue 53 - Dec 09. I have seen these on a couple of scooters and they look very well made. I hope these people are still around when I get to point of having balance issues so I can keep on riding.

Thanks, Dibber. That is exactly the one I had in mind. I knew my MB family would come through.

I'm sorry but people with "balance issues" should not be on a bike of any kind, training wheels or not

Man, I don't know what I think about that. Obviously it would take away a lot of *MY* idea of the fun of riding: Leaning into turns. But I suppose there might be good reasons to install something like that. Look well made no matter what you think about them.

Wonder what they charge for those things?

I believe if going with Tow-Pac you would use their micro-mini version for scooters 150cc or under.Hey if it keeps you riding more power to you. :D

Or don't. In addition to being just really badly designed, the main page of the site loads two videos in Windows Media format that can cause the browser on a non-Windows computer to start loading infinite copies of the page. On Windows, they start playing automatically (both of them at the same time) if you're using Firefox. The site appears to work OK (it just loads really slowly because of the videos) (and the design doesn't get any better) if you use MS IE.

Surfer beware.

Once they add those things, it's not a bike. So your requirements are met.

Personally (as in, if I were looking at these things for myself) I think those are ridiculous. However, If a person can use them safely to extend their lifetime of riding, then I'm OK with that. Once the rider gets to the point of not being able to make sane judgments about accelerating, braking and general traffic... well, I'd still prefer them on the road on one of these than behind the wheel of a Sport-Futility-Vehicle.

I can barely find the floor when I get up in the morning. Several people wonder how the hell I'm able to walk. I'm a complete klutz when it comes to balancing on my own two feet. And God forbid you put me in heels.

But I can ride a scooter like nobody's business. Have been since '01. But I really suck when you get me on 4 wheels.

While balance can be a good indicator someone probably shouldn't take up riding, it isn't always the case.

The op was referring to balance on a bike, not off the couch

Cool, but on a Honda Met? I know those fun little 'buggers' sometimes don't have the power to get out of their own way, what would adding this do along those lines??

This guy did something similar on an MP3, if you scroll down the page you will see all the mods he made, and how they were done.

They use the tow-pac
