Modern Buddy

So I have the NCY Big brake. Got the disc with no bracket at our shop. Finally tracked down a bracket and now I have a question. To those of you who have installed the kit. How does the bracket mount to the fork? If I recall correctly the stock bracket has threaded holes but the new one does not. I didn't get this as a kit so I don't know what I'm missing.

To be clear, I could figure this out on my own but the scoot is buried behind my car which is in pieces

If it's anything like the Blur Big brake kit (also from NCY) then the bracket has two threaded holes and two clean holes. They should also be offset so that the bracket goes over the threaded holes on the fork (clean holes on the bracket) and then behind the caliper (threaded holes on the bracket where a bolt will pass through the unthreaded holes on the caliper).

The kit didn't come with bolts (WTF, seriously?!) so I had to find those separately. They were a little on the pricey side because I had to buy a lot of 10 so that I could have a pair that were rated, unlike the parts bin at Lowes/Home Depot.

Again, that's just how the Blur's was set up. The bracket just offsets the caliper, so the threaded holes will be in line with the threaded holes on the fork. It should be pretty obvious when you get into it. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have trouble finding bolts, I might still have some... or rather, I might be able to find the ones that I know I have.

Also, be sure not to touch your brakes once the caliper is free. I realize you should probably know this already, but so did I, lol. It didn't stop me from pulling it from muscle memory when I used the handlebar to pull myself off the ground when I was working on mine. It's easy enough to push the pots back in, but still sucked to realize what I had done, lol.

That was my assumption before I got the bracket (no threaded holes) as I stated earlier. Maybe I got a defect and I'll have to tap the bracket.

From what I could tell, It replaces the factory adapter thus retaining the factory mounting hardware. When I pulled the bracket out I was like "wtf? shouldn't these be threaded?"

Guess I'll dig Lady Luck out of the garage today

Irk, that would suck if yours was defective. Let me know what you think of it, as I really need to put new brakes on my scoot and am thinking about installing those.

I'll get at you this weekend when I figure it out. The only thing this kit does is dissipate heat better, same pads, same braking surface. I guess it also looks cool . I just got a smoking deal on it so.....

Edit: The heat dissipation will be good for you if you're going to be racing

Heat dissipation is good though when you're slowing quickly from 80MPH
That and I've got 27k miles on my brakes, so its time to do something about them. I'm also thinking of adapting some Brembo motorcycle calipers to the Buddy so I can stop even faster than the bike already does

Yep, now I just have to make room to work on it

the idea of the larger disk is it has more leverage over the wheel

just as you use a longer breaker bar on a bolt the larger disk has more leverage over the wheel to stop it

this is the same kit used on the black jack
