Saddlebags revisited

Post by michelle_7728 »

I know there have been several threads on saddlebags here on Modern Buddy. I was just looking for some saddlebags myself and read through some of the past threads.

I didn't find anything that quite fit the bill for what I was looking for, so I did some more searchs on the internet. My requirements: Easy on/off, holds it's shape, waterproof (or has rain covers), protective heat shield on lower section of bags, reasonably priced, protects Buddy's finish, easy to carry when not on the bike.

New Enough has a pretty good selection (28 different types). Here's the link: http://www.newenough.com/parts/luggage/saddlebags_

I just ordered the Fieldsheer Expander Saddlebags--being expandable is a feature I have really found useful in tha past (from a piece of luggage I used on my non-motorized bicycle). Reflective is good also. :D

I'll update the post with my thoughts on them when they arrive.

Also, to help new searchers, I have included some of the ModernBuddy threads I read....helping with the "one stop shopping" as it were...

Scooterworks picked up a few more offerings in the luggage area.
Anyone heard anything about Dowco?

They have those same Dowco saddle bags at New Enough for $15 less than SWorks.

I can tell ya that (as I've mentioned before) the SX appeal saddle bags are basically worthless. They look great, but they just don't hold much at all. Because of the shape I couldn't even get a three ring binder to fit in one of them. They also don't come with rain covers and are anything but waterproof. They started looking pretty rough after the first rain.

It depends on what you're looking for but these Tourmaster bags expand, are waterproof with rain covers, lay over your seat bucket when the seat is up, has reflective material all under the back and bottom and is heat resistant to the muffler. I can stay somewhere a week with these things. I open the seat and lift them off the bike and carry to wherever I'm headed. A little expensive but they are a one-time buy that is quality.

This isn't exactly the set I have but you get the idea:

hey bonegirl, those look really good. If the price you paid is comprable to the set you linked to, then they arn't any more expensive than the crap ones either.

Saddlebags revisited

Great comments everyone! I think this will be a good thread to bookmark to point others to. Regardless of whether they like mine, folks are bound to get lots of good ideas from this thread.

Here are my new saddlebags. Super speedy delivery and I love them! I'm ordering another set for my husband for his birthday which is coming soon.

I chose not to put my straps under the seat, since I feel they will be plenty secure the way I have them (and I like the bags riding a little higher and farther back on the seat), but to each his own. Sorry for all the pictures for those of you who aren't interested, but for those that are, I thought they might help. :D

Nice picture, Bonegirl! Nice ride! 8)
