Modern Buddy

Weather's improving bit by bit, so the Blur's going into dry dock for the next few days for it's preseason prep. I'm going to be taking the headset off in order to top off the brake fluid and I thought that I'd grease the speedo cable as long as I was in the neighborhood.

Trouble is that I can't remember what I used to use back when I did the same stuff on one of my cars that had snapped its cable. I've got regular old bearing grease and white lithium, and for some reason I keep thinking "graphite".

Any ideas as to which is best, or is a plain ol' lightweight oil (like 3-in-1) the right thing to use?

I used a moly based wheel bearing, u-joint and CV joint grease (Valvoline Dura Blend) when I lubed the speedo cable on my Concours... it made a weird "warbling" sound at certain speeds and the peg was a little twitchy. The lube silenced the odd sound and made it move like silk.

I also use the same stuff when I rebuild/regrease the driven pulley guide pins. It's good stuff, and black as night. I think when I was comparing it to a graphite suspension grease, the temp range was a lot higher with the moly blend stuff.
