My Buddy has just not
wanted to start for weeks, I blamed it on a dead battery. I know this happens this time of year.
Today I took it out and left it sit in the sun in the driveway while I rode the Honda 50cc for a while. Just for laughs when I got back I tried Simon, the Buddy, and it kicked right over......
Can someone explain this to me??

It's cold, no vehicle starts easier when they are cold. Oil is thicker, causing more resistance. You may also have a bit of ice in your carb

Let me guess: Your poor, neglected Buddy has been sitting in a dark, perhaps somewhat dank, garage with spiderwebs in the corners and earwigs in the cravaces (sp?). It is cold, not so nice weather, and you expect to just pull the scooter out of this, hop on and it will instantly be all ready to go, now that you have finally decided you are interested in it again?
Umm, yeah right. Perhaps "Simon" was not the right name, I am thinking you might have a

"Simone"

there and she is not a happy camper

. You put her out in the sun and let her get a bit of the light of day and her mood improved

so she was willing to consider the idea of going out with you again.
You might want to try bringing home a nice vintage of good quality synthetic oil and perhaps some little trinket that she can wear to feel pretty-I don't know but maybe a front rack or basket even, some new grips or even spring for a new cover for her to keep her feeling snug, cozy and loved.
In other words, I concur with rsrider.
Good luck,

Vic, you may be right, although they both sit next to each other in the garage, right by the bay door ready for a quick escape, Simon sits closer to the window however!
I am planning oil and gear oil changes on both scoots. Would new inspection sticker count as a new 'tat'? I know, a nice 'trinket' could help.
I'm thinking a nice crome basket instead of the 'frumpy' milk crate on the back, a new 'gremlin bell' is in order this year as well....

Archie might not case as much as "Simone". You might want to think about the name... I am telling you it sounds like you have a girl scooter on your hands to me!
Have fun with that... I specifically made sure my scooters were boys, I have enough drama with one teenage daughter, I don't need a diva scooter too!
Charlie Brown, the sunset orange Buddy, likes attention enough as it is, if he was a she, I think I would have lost my mind by now. LOL

Just think, if you'd named it "Lucy" it'd pull the kickstarter out from under you!

One other issue I was having last fall was the famous vapor/vacume lock issue. I had been in contact with Genuine earlier this week via email and just today I recieved a vented gas cap for my beloved Buddy!!
Simon
THANKS Genuine!

You guys are the tops!
BTW: The name 'Simon' is because it's a St. Tropez, I've named it after Simon Templar, 'The Saint'

The little devil has pulled the proverbial rug out from under me a few times as it is
I named him Charlie Brown because I think that the color scheme is kind of ugly but he has a good heart and is still quite lovable.
My Sym is named George because the mirrors are kind of "sticky-outie" and he has kind of a futuristic look to him, so he is named after George Jetson and another more recently famous George with sticky-outie ears...I will stop there so this does not become political

.
