They got me with the foldability... until I saw the price. :-/

Part of my reasoning for starting with the Buddy was 'hey, some people pay more for their bicycles for this!'

With the Yike, it's "some people pay more for their cars for this!"

Maybe if I lived in Chicago or NY or Edinburgh...

Yup, my dad just bought a new road bike that cost about the same price as this. I certainly have way more money into bikes than I have into my scooter (I also have way more bikes than scooters). Then again bicycles are the most superior form of transportation on earth

I don't know, bike commuters have already raised many safety concerns, if this thing hits something in the road like a pothole, you're gonna do a face plant in that riding position. Also, the folks who wouldn't bat an eye spending $4500 on a bicycle are the same cycling snobs I run into on the forums that hate on electric bikes of any stripe, so I'm not really sure who this thing is being marketed twoard. Its kinda cool though

Yeah, it is cool. You're going to have to learn a whole new skill set to be safe and comfortable on that thing. $4500? I'll pay off my ZX-6R.

From the YikeBike FAQ:

"You can ride the YikeBike on private property. Whether you could also ride it on public streets or bikepaths or footpaths remains to be seen, and if you choose to do so it is at your own risk."

Don't think I want to spend that kind of money on something I can't ride anywhere.

Interesting concept... but the singing in the music video made me want to tear off my own ears

It reminds me of the "unicycle with training wheels" that The Monkees used to ride around on. Yes, I just dated myself.

It's totally street legal in CA. You could even ride it on the sidewalk and bring it on the train.

That's all fine and good, but it bugs me that so many of these new green vehicles look like mobile toilets.

Yet another "I'm to lazy to walk or ride a bike" vehicle. My friends Grandpa is 83 and still gets up and walks 8 miles to and from work almost everyday. He works "just for something to do" and walks "because it beats getting another crappy car". He is a healthy ox of a man and sharp as a tack. Hmmmm, I wonder why.

Even if I could get over the price, I can't get over how it looks too much like my son's little red tricycle from when he was 2, smooshed down flat and painted black!

Yike!!! Da price!!! It is kinda cool but holy cats that's a lot of money! The fold up part is neat though. Kinda looks James Bondish.

A friend of mine discovered the site.

it's an interesting idea... but what happens if you have to carry things with you? most people carry a bag/laptop/etc when going to work in an urban environment. i also wonder how you balance on it? i'd like to test ride one just to see.
