about to earn that voodoo patch

Post by Cheshire »

A few days ago, I ordered a few things to celebrate the beginning of my scooter's 2nd warm-weather riding season. (Any excuse, right?) At 13,600 miles, the rear brake shoes recently developed a catch to them at slow speeds, so I ordered new rear brake shoes. I had gotten a new CVT belt earlier this month and noticed the gasket on the transmission is getting crispy, so a new gasket went on the order. Then I thought about how, while I'm loving my flat-ground top end, I lost more climbing than I wanted. I have 12g sliders now and had 11g before, so some 11.5g sliders got put on that order, along with the gasket and brake shoes. Then...as a token of affection for my scooter being the most reliable, faithful vehicle this past year...I got the Prima pipe.

Silly me, when they called to tell me the order came in, I realized I forgot jets. New order today of main jets 95-115...and since I was placing another order and didn't want to bug my shop with such a small one, I got some saddlebags.

The appointment for the shop to put the pipe on (and preserve the remainder of my warranty) is Friday of next week: the 9th.
I CAN'T WAIT!!!

I just got my first scooter a couple of weeks ago, and I'm trying to keep that bug away! My Genuine sales/repair guy made a few suggestions as well yesterday when I picked my Buddy up after he put on the freebies. "You could have the fastest Buddy around without voiding your warranty...new pipe, 161 kit..." SOOOO TEMPTING!

:D :D :D

I'll be doing the jetting myself, but want them to put the pipe on to keep my i's crossed on warranty. That patch has been sitting above my computer waiting to be sewn on...it just hasn't felt like I've earned the right to wear it with just weights and springs!

Just got back from the shop. New rear brake shoes, new slider weights, new Prima pipe. Oh, and new saddlebags. :D

-Saddlebags create much more drag than I was expecting. Ah, well. They're nice and decently sized, though. Built-in rain covers, stiffening thingits so they keep their shape, and reflective material (maybe heat shield?) on the bottom. I think I'll like them.
-New rear brakes: the old shoes still had a decent amount of pad left, but they had developed a weird something that made them lurch just a little when coming to a stop. I hadn't realized how much brake I'd gone through until I pulled the lever when I was leaving the parking lot. Yay, new brakes!
-My first sliders were 11g, my 2nd set were 12. First was great climbing, 2nd was great flat-ground top speed. These are 11.5g: The goal is to get some of that climbing power back without killing all of the top end gain.
-Ah...prima pipe. I never realized how much that high note of the stock exhaust irritated me until I rode home. Same reason I can't play violin...higher pitches close by get to me. I love, LOVE the deeper note and torque the pipe gives! I do wish it was a little quieter, but something about cake and eating. I'll take the lower note and the key to the voodoo gate, please. ;) It's already getting a golden tone to the pipe...very pleasing aesthetically.
-Main jets. As soon as I'm confident the pipe is dialed in, I'm ripping into the air box and rejetting. I want more speed!!
