What performance would change

Post by jijifer »

if I went from 11g sliders to 10g sliders?
Scooterworks is out of all but 10g and my 11g sliders need replacing. I've got the 161cc kit and stock 150 head but no other performance stuff on the variator or clutch.

would it be faster take off slower top end? I don't need any faster take off.

what other variator weight options do I have? Primas sucked. Stock seem light.

Going from 11 to 10, your MPG's would go down, you'd get potentially faster take-offs (assuming that it doesn't just over-rev out of it's powerband) and lower top end speed.

With a 161 kit and a lot of WOT riding, you should give 12g sliders a shot. Your MPG's should increase quite a bit and the 161 kit should reduce any chance of the heavier weights bogging it at all. It might be slightly slower off the line, but that's the trade-off.

As far as which rollers to go with, either use stock or Dr Pulley. You could take a chance on some cheap ebay rollers, as long as you don't expect them to last long (you could be pleasantly surprised, just don't expect it). Prima rollers=:bleh:

how much slower on the take off? I'd like MPG increase though I wonder if my speedo coming loose made me think I was getting worse MPG that I was. I've been regularly getting 73mpg since my speedo was fixed vs low 60s high 50s before. If I got much faster on the top end, N2Tattoos will NEVER keep up :) I leave his blackjack in the dust quite often, particularly up hill.

That's the thing about non-fixed gearing. You can't put hard numbers on it.

would 12g increase the top end if slowing the take off or just slow it down in general thus increasing my mpg?

right before i went to 161cc i changed out my 11g sliders for 12g. even with the 125cc i could barley tell a difference off the line and i got just a bit more at the top end. now with the 161cc and the 12gs im just trying to keep the front end down

You won't accelerate as fast, but it'll get a higher top speed. changing weights changes the gearing.

It's the difference of flooring it in second gear vs flooring it in third. Second will accelerate faster and end in a lower top speed where third would accelerate slower but result in a higher top speed.

I'll give 12g a try. I'd like better MPG.

If you've still got them in a week, I might be sending you a PM. I got 11s to go with my new Dr. Pulley Variator. Plan on putting everything in this weekend and going on some long rides to break it in. I was iffy if I should get 11s or 12s.
