for those that have this kit installed... what kind of decrease in mpg are we looking at here? Thx!

so im going with the 161cc kit, uni foam air filter, stock exhaust. What jets do i need to buy to get this mixture right?

Don't bother upgrading the air filter without upgrading the exhaust, It will never run right

Most I would suggest doing is modding the air box (I think my diy is in the tech area)

Nobody can tell you over the internet what jets to use. Asking this question usually means you are in over your head. If you don't do an air filter, just the cylinder a 95 jet should be fine since the 150 uses a 92

since im near sea level and am sticking with the stock exhaust, uni foam air filter, and 161 kit with big valve head i was thinking more like 108 main jet and 50 idle.

and im not in over my head lol i just don't like messing with carbs but thanks for your help.

anyone else have any more helpful advice?

Whoa there, don't bother with the UNI without exhaust. Just don't do it. It won't run properly.

Also a 50 idle is WAY too big. I run a 145 main and the STOCK 38 idle in mine. There's a lot of adjustment in the idle mixture screw :)

Does he know much about tuning? I could get well over 80mph before I even bothered with the UNI. You'll only loose torque and gas mileage if its not tuned for the uni. That includes the pipe.

his seems to be running fine. so i guess i stick with the stock air filter and upgrade the head and cylinder. With that being said, just go up to 95 on the main jet?

With the kit and a head, I'd think it'd be higher than that. Maybe in the ballpark of 100 to 110, but don't take my word for it. Jetting is one of the hardest things to recommend over the internet. It depends a lot on your bike and altitude.

yeah. the hard part is dropping $5 for every jet and in the end, you are left with jets that cost $5 a pop that you will not be using at all

Heh, I understand that :) I've got a drawer full of jets I don't use... Start with the 95. Check your plug, if its lean, order another.... Thats the only way to not spend for them upfront: Pay for the savings in shipping time.

Heh, you don't want most of mine. They've all been drilled, soldered, and redrilled on :) The largest jet you can get your hands on is a 125. I'm running a 145. After 125 I had to make a lot of my own.

Yeah, you didn't mention the head at first. You will definitely probably be in the 100+ range . I would start with a 100 but I never like to run too lean

If it's the added noise you are worried about, the filter will probably almost make it as loud as the pipe. If it's the cost, buy a generic gy6 setup and make it fit

I have the stock exhaust (which I really like on my ruckus because it's small) 161 kit, big valve, K&N filter and I'm running stock slow jet and a 110 main jet and it seems to right on.

The exhaust really doesn't do much except give it a deep tone. The unifilter probably won't do much either but it will get rid of that nasty looking airbox off your ruckus. Start at the 100 level and go up. You'll know the ball park range with the buddy engine. It rides really well or it drives like crap.

I'll have to disagree with both :) the Prima exhaust flows a lot more, as does the UNI filter. If your restriction isn't the pipe sure you won't notice a difference, but once you start putting things like a cam or head on it you'll quickly notice a difference between the stock pipe and the Prima.

The UNI however will slow the speed of the intake charge if you can't suck enough air and will make you loose a LOT of torque.

I've been told time and time again that if I want speed I can't worry about mpg. The best i've gotten since kitting is 78mpg and the worst has been 51mpg.

one interesting thing that clicked in my head this weekend is that if the speed is "optimistic" 10% then the miles you go will be 10% optimistic as will the mpg. And it's been suggested that over time the speedo gets more and more optimistic. My speedo came disconnected and when it reconnected I immediately started getting 10mpg more. It wasn't until I was navigating to Palm Springs and knew I need to take a right after 34 miles and having clocked 42miles on the speedometer sans any where to take a right I worried my map was wrong. Nope according to my speedo I went 45miles before turning right. So the what I'm concluding is that my speedo is now off and that is how it appears I gained 10mpg simply by reconnecting my cable. Of course, then I had my sliders (variator) changed this weekend to the same make and weight & my spark plug replaced and clocked only 55mpg (or a decrease of 20mpg from the previous tank with the only changes being new sliders and spark plug).

So back to my original point, once you start modding your scoot, MPG can't be sweated as it will be maddening. It will decrease if power increases or you run more WOT which is half the fun of a faster scoot! :)
