Buddy Seat Removal

I am trying to replace the seat on my buddy and have not been able to figure out how to remove the old seat. There is a gold hinge with a large screw that connects the hinge to the luggage compartment, and two small screws that connect the hinge to the seat. I am unable to loosen the two small screws, and I don't see the point of removing the large screw because the new seat does not have its own hinge - so either way I will need to remove the two small screws in order to remove the hinge from the old seat. What am I missing? Thank you for any help you can provide.
