Modern Buddy

I need to tell you all that I received fantastic service from the folks at Xena Security! I have been using a Xena Disc Lock for about a year and a few months ago the batteries finally died. I replaced them, but the alarm was not operating properly. Tried different batteries, same result. I finally called Xena and they graciously sent me a new alarm module and 2 sets of batteries! Not only did it fix the problem, but it won me over as a customer!

I really like my Xena disc alarm.

I too had a great experience with Xena. Back in '09 or '08, I had to call Xena at their Florida HQ in the USA regarding making sure that I got the right Xena for the Buddy. At that time, there was some confusion with dealers recommending a lock that was designed for the Vespa but fit onto the Buddy. The gentleman that I spoke with at Xena turned out to be the CEO visiting from Europe. We had a wonderful conversation and he sent me out a new model lock designed for the Buddy asking me just to mail in the lock I had purchased earlier after I received the replacement. Nice guy. He just took my word that I'd mail it to him which I did.

Hello Xena owners. I just ordered mine after my friends' car was stolen I decided maybe my neighborhood isn't as safe as I think. So hopefully it'll be here next week.

What are the do's and don'ts with this thing. Will it ALWAYS squeal when you put it on or off? If it's just riding in my petcarrier is it activated? How long does it squeal before it shuts itself off?

I have a downstairs neighborhood who, while making his own fair share of noise, gets all weird if I make any, including shutting off the water to get my attention. So any tips you can give me about how to use my Xena without creating more tension betwixt me and the neighbor.

You're gonna love it. It really is a great product. I've worked on my alarm unlocking/removal technique and have got it down to only one or two beeps before I have it off and silent. Occasionally no beeps at all. That is all the noise mine ever makes other than when it is legitimately going off. If you happen to jog your scooter when the alarm is on and active you can set it off in which case it turns off in about 15 seconds. That's it and all there is too it.

One other note, I use a scooter cover with mine so that any would be thieves will set off the alarm long before they ever get the cover off (and hopefully give up and run away). Just one more little layer of security.

It is only activated when it is locked on metal (sensor), so it won't go off in the pet carrier, and it only beeps once when you put it on to let you know that it is activated.

Mine has gone off in my pet carrier before. Upon examination, it is because the Reminder Cable I use had slid into the opening and was making the alarm think it was on the disc. Simple fix was to turn the Xena so the opening was facing away from the cable. Hasn't gone off in the PC since.

So once it is set off it's going to go off for 15 seconds no matter what I do? If it's going off it's probably too loud to really get down and unlock it, right?

How much movement is require? It's pretty gusty over here by the ocean I wonder if it'll go off with every gust!

You can vary the alarms sensitivity. Align it to 12 o'clock for most sensitive, 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock for less sensitive, 6 o'clock for least sensitive. If it goes off you can still put the key in it and remove it and it will stop as soon as it is off the disc.

I don't get how it goes on my disc brake..it just flops around and the reflector is not getting blocked by the disc.

It just slips over the disc and the bolt goes through one of the holes in the disc. It is not a snug fit.

ok, not sure what I'm doing wrong. It goes off as I put the battery in the the case back into the lock but once I get the bottom plate on (the alarm going off the whole time) the alarm won't activate. Any ideas?

Best thing to do is call Xena. They are very helpful.

turns out once the plate is one it won't activate until on the disc! Man, that thing went off in my house about 20mins as I put the battery in, took it out thinking it wasn't working and then back in again. Holy smokes it's loud!

I bought a XX-6 through RIDERS NEEDS (in Chicago) on Amazon. Be wary of them. They sent me what looks to be a refurbished model (lots of dings, scrapes, and looks repainted). The packaging did not contain a battery, so I assumed the battery was already installed. But I wasn't able to find out, bc the battery compartment was completely jammed shut and wouldn't open. I have no idea what they did to this thing. The alarm wouldn't engage when I put it on my bike, so obviously no battery was in there (or it was dead), but I couldn't fix it bc I couldn't open it, and no battery in packaging.

I sent it back to them, and they denied my return because......... the battery was missing!

It's been 3 days now, and they won't return my calls or emails.

I decided to call XENA in Florida directly. Within 3 minutes, they had my info, told me how to forcibly break open the battery compartment, and are sending me a new battery compartment + battery today... for FREE.

Wow. That's actually pretty amazing service. I'm happy to be their customer. (though I do with there was a way to avoid the one beep I get while disarming)

I just received a Xena XPL69 Bullet lock and the thing is HUGH!!!!, but so amazingly well built. I think this will be the last lock I'll ever have to buy for my Stella.
