Ignition Column Lock Position

Post by crashtestdummy »

Hey there,

I have noticed the following issue with my ignition switch:
- turn key to the far left(CCW) so it is in the column lock position
- remove key
- come back later
- insert key
- *** very difficult to move key right (CW) out of the column lock position ***

Is there a secret technique to move the ignition once it has been placed in the column lock position?
I now don't even use that position due to my fear of getting the ignition switch stuck in that position.

if you move around your handle bars gently, just like when you lock it, it should move. It will not unlock when it is all the way to one side.

I too use the magic jiggle technique.
From our wonderful Buddy 50 service manual:

When you lock the bike the handlebars are at full left lock. This places pressure on the pin that locks the head into place. If you just jiggle the bars as mentioned above (or simply push the left grip slightly forward, towards right lock) you'll relieve the pressure and turning the key will be easy. If not, something is wrong.

I'm also down with the magic jiggle.

For my scooter too.

Will refine my technique

Sounds good to me. I had been attempting to jiggle and move the handlebars when attempting to lock them.

I will experiment some more and perfect my technique. If my problem still exists, I will assume a Buddy issue.

Thanks

Seems to me this is a pretty common new Buddy owner problem. It took me a while to get it right myself, and I think I even posted a question some time ago about it:
