I considered something similar for awhile, but you have to consider the power requirements. The Buddy's power system can't handle that much, and now that I have dead-lights to running-lights, I definitely don't have enough power left for that.

there are a few problems that you'll run into.

1. power. the battery on your buddy won't hold up to an amp that's powerful enough to produce a noticeable volume.

2. volume. open air speakers + road noise + wind + you have a helmet on = was that dancing queen that was just playing? or danzig?

3. listening to music is dangerous. this doesn't need to be explained. I guess a speaker system is "safer" than wearing headphones, but i'd vote for neither.

I have a half helmet and my ears aren't covered.

Being on the road is dangerous. Music and riding is only dangerous if you get caught up in the music and stop paying attention.

I'm always aware of my surroundings due to the dbag drivers around. The only thing that distracts me is on serene streets with victorian style houses that are fun to dream about living in. Those streets dont have much traffic.

It can cover up sounds that might otherwise alert you to problems. I'm not saying "don't do it", but there's no question that riding with music is more dangerous than riding without. You need to decide for yourself whether you're OK with that additional risk.

My wife just picked this up yesterday at GNC for $9. Her original intent wasn't for scooter use, but I was always wanting some tunes without restricting headphones. The sound quality is surprisingly good for the low price, and I'll be getting my own here shortly. I'm about to head out now and try it out on the road. I'll let it sit in my center console. It is adaptable for any device with an audio jack and uses 2 AA batteries. I wouldn't recommend installing any flashy audio accessories when you leave your scoot locked up somewhere for it to get ripped off. When I'm done, it's as easy as remove my Ipod, turn off the power switch, and lock it in the doghouse.

Battery powered. Can connect to your audio device via bluetooth.

I have a cheap bluetooth tiny ear set for my smartphone. It fits inside the helmet. With the amount of memory smartphone has having fav music selections is nothing major. FOr the helmet I got Cyclone, HJC . With bluetuth telephone receiver it is only one ear occupied, not both.

My ear set is 3.5 cm long

follow up to my previous post. It sounded good, but the front console pouch kind of muffled the sound when it was sitting in there, so it wasn't quite loud enough to overcome wind noise at full volume. I'll have to play around with it some more before I call it quits. Trial and error. Maybe that little device has a new home on Engine 102.

hey Boots, do you think it would work just as speakers for an iPod when I'm out in the woods camping? Sometimes we like some tunes when listening to the NOAA stations on my wind-up radio gets old. I need something tiny as we're carrying stuff for 2 weeks.

For the OP:
I set up my Cardo Scala Rider 2 to use with my iPod and even with earplugs in, I could hear the music quite well. It was such a pleasure to have music on a really long ride.

Absolutely. Not too loud to disturb the peace, not too bulky or heavy to take up space, and it has a handy clip so you can clip it to the outside of your bag if needed. Perfect for some peaceful sounds at the grill, fireside, or at the beach. Can't beat it for the price, and it keeps your Ipod padded.

+1 I have the Q2 multiset (package contained 2 full setups) and LOVE love LOVE it!

It is an individual choice about safety, riding, distraction, and so forth. I feel that it is FAR safer for me to have the ability to connect to the GPS program in my Balckberry (I add VZN navigator for the months that I want to have GPS capability) than for me to be riding around, slowing down at every intersection, trying to find street signs, not sure if I missed a turn, trying to read the Super Sticky Post It notes on the inside of my windscreen/or worse a map... blah blah blah. Having the directions fed to me in my helmet and knowing that if I do miss a turn it will be recalculating my route and I will still have a good chance of finding my destination...

I just play music through my phone. I have a G1 and the speakers aren't great or super loud, but I think it's just right. I know what's playing, but it's not disturbing anyone else. Thanks to the Pandora application for android, I have a pretty customized listening experience through my cellphone!
