Cleveland June 16th ride coming up!
This is sure to be a good time. I hope to see some Buddy's. We need to represent. On a recent ride I was the only one. me. so sad. At least this time there will be 2.
oh yes, Indian food before hand!
here is the info from POC/Vespa Club Cleveland:
What: "Jewel in the Crown" Ride
When: Saturday June 16th, High Noon
Where: Maharaja Madras Café
5156 Wilson Mills Rd.
Richmond Hts. OH 44143
How: on your scoot
India's contributions to scootering are without compare. Her manufacturing, use and perpetuation of Piaggio, Lambretta, Bajaj, LML, etc. products boggle the mind. The Maharaja offers a wonderful Indian buffet and there'll be a 2 to 2 1/2 hour ride to follow. Vintage and Modern, all brands are welcome.
Here's a review:
The Maharaja Madras Café’s menu is a well-integrated chorus of northern and southern Indian faves, everything from tandoori chicken to chana bhatura, an enormous, puffy fried bread sided with vegetarian chickpea stew. An inexpensive lunchtime buffet offers a tasty opportunity to explore the alternatives, both familiar and exotic. Indian beers; full bar.
» Indian/Pakistani » Buffet
Hours: Lunch: 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Tue.-Fri. Dinner: 5-10 p.m. Tue.-Fri., 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Sat.-Sun. Closed Mon.
Payment Types Accepted: cash, Discover, Visa and MasterCard
Price: $$, $
The Madras is located in the Hilltop Plaza at Wilson Mills and Richmond Rd across from the Richmond Mall in Richmond Hts, OH. There is plenty of parking in the area.
edit: I need to get the time- I will post once available

That's Deb's one Saturday a month to work, and I'm sure 10 year old Claire doesn't want to ride on the back for 6 hours! (1-1/2 plus hours each way to the start point.)
If I can find somewhere to send her for the day, I'm in.
I can keep up with Buddys now.

i'm driving there with a friend, so it's pretty much out of the question... were i driving alone, i'd be lying if i said i wouldn't have considered itpeabody99 wrote:that too bad...I am sure there are more to come (but probably not with an Indian Buffet before hand!) We have to go to Chi town the last week of June and of course I half seriously asked if we could drive the Buddies. I think my husband asked if I was on crack or something.

Starting this Spring, Buddy started having issues leaking gas. Mechanical details by Phil are in the thread I hijacked below. Anyway the darn thing kept having the same issues. The Buddy could have easily met lemon criteria under Oh lemon law. Rather than play ugly like 99.9 % of companies would in a situation like this, Genuine- maybe in part b/c of POC Phils advocacy, replaced the scooter without argument. Pretty darn cool and it says a lot about our dealer and Genuine. Apparently even PGO was concerned and wants the bike back so they can figure out what the duece is up with it. I was sadly worried I would have a battle, but nope, excellent customer serivce all around.

May not be any buddies there (mostly vintage), but there will be scooters. I don't actually have a Buddy, I have a Blur, but I won't have that either, I'll be on my dark metallic green Vespa Primavera.mandelia wrote:that looks cool! i'll try to stop by and will keep an eye out for the buddies!

What a beautiful day! Thanks, and glad to see everyone. I clocked 43 miles for the ride, and 36 each way for 115 mile day. Great food, too!
The only downside was my new Scorpion (700 miles) broke off at the weld 2" down from the head. Sad So it was straight-piping it home with Darrell and Phil for the last 15 miles. My ears are ringing like crazy!
Photos to come as soon as I get them off of the camera and uploaded to Smugmug.

steve it was great seeing you and Brett again. That was really, really nice out there wasnt it- From Indian buffet to rolling hills and polo fields we have it all don't we? Hope both of your little bugs get worked out. We headed back to POC via broadway/harvard and made the 2007 cream buddy mine officially. Now to customize... did either of you fisgure out what is faster: souped up Vespa or standard issue Buddy?

Yea, that deffinitely would have been me! There were a *lot* of people along the way stopping to see what that sound was. Several cars' drivers also made gestures to keep it down. Well, I would if I could, but the muffler was hanging off the side, swinging around, and there was no ewxhaust pipe at all!Redrider wrote:smorris,
I belvieve you were cruising down lake avenue this afternoon?
I was coming back from a mountain bike ride and heard an ungodly roar cruising down by west blvd, I happened to turn my head to see a lovely vespa roaring like a wee beastie. quite a growl!
I've been home for almost five hours, and my ears still hurt!

I love riding out there. I don't know if Tim gets tired of taking us through his stomping grounds, but that area is definitely one of the nicest areas I've seen around here.peabody99 wrote:steve it was great seeing you and Brett again. I put the old (stock) exhaust back on, but it will certainly limit the output of the larger displacement. I'll have to get a Sito Plus or find a PM Tuning pipe. I'm not putting another Scorpion on there.
Did you notice that the polo field was *full* of kids playing organized Frisbee!

Nope, Brett and I didn't really directly have a go at it. There were a couple of times we gunned it a bit, but never a "ready, set, GO!" I will note that prior to all my changes, the fastest I ever went was an indicated 73 MPH (68.8 on GPS) in full tuck. but today heading home I saw 70-71 while I was at less than full throttle and sitting upright. Guess not having a muffler frees up that exhaust a bit.

See y'all next time, or at the VCoC meeting (Very Cool old Coots)

Yes, indeed, a fun time was had by all. It was good seeing everyone again.
Smorris, I thought your exhaust was sounding nice. Your ride and Buddy Lightning were harmonizing nicely throughout the afternoon. Thanks for the photos - especially braving the mid-ride shots. I didn't hide from the camera as much this ride, but it's a little harder when there are only 10 people. I only got a few in the parking lot, so nothing special.
Redrider, where do you live? If you do single-track mountain biking we should get together sometime. Are you familiar with the new trail being built in Cuyahoga Heights?

Yea, I noticed several times where the harmonics were just going in and out of phase. That sounded pretty cool!bwilms wrote: Smorris, I thought your exhaust was sounding nice. Did you see me back there fiddling with the camera while riding? I thought I saw you looking in the mirror. I hate needing glasses. I couldn't tell if I was getting any photos or not. Come to find out I took some nice videos of my foot... I didn't even know I had the video part on. I never use it.
Here are two AVI (8 and 6 MB) and a MOV (12MB, I had to edit out my foot, and couldn't save as an AVI)

Here are the ends of the pipe where it broke.

It's the boots.I will argue I look bloated from the Indian buffet. thats my story and I am sticking to it.

Yeah, Buddy Lightning has been running great since we left Vespa Cleveland. I don't know if I just missed something, but I was having a hard time getting it started from the moment I left for Richmond Heights. I ended up kick starting it and it worked fine. When we made our first stop in the park the electric start wouldn't work again, so I kicked it once more.peabody99 wrote:Hope both of your little bugs get worked out.
At Vespa Cleveland, the kick wouldn't turn it over. Steve thought the engine kill switch was on, but it wouldn't start at all with that on, right? I kicked and kicked and kicked, and got nothing. Finally, Tim suggested giving the electric start one last try - started right up. It's been starting great ever since.
I'm pretty sure it was user error somewhere, and Buddy Lightning is not to be blamed, but I'll let you know if the problem persists.
