My custom seat is finished! Update: Installed!!!

I am so freakin' excited! I got pics today from Diamond Upholstery in Oregon of the seat I sent them. They just received it yesterday and have already finished it. These are the same people that did Mr. Miller's black jack seat and he was kind enough to go over and check it out for me. The guy is going to shave some of the added pad off of the back seat under the red piping to give it a tighter line and send it back to me. I think it is pretty awesome work for $75 considering that I was being quoted $225 to $300 here in Atlanta. I'll post more pics once I receive and install it. Thanks again Mr. Miller.

Atlbuddy,
Was that originally a BJ seat, or a stock Buddy seat?
Also, can you post Diamond's contact info.
The phone number i found on the web is not working for me.
PM me the info if you don't want it published.
Thanks,
Mike

Niiiice.

How does it feel?

It's a stock buddy seat. I provided him a sketch of what I wanted and he was able to build the back up a bit to give it sort of the black jack seat look. I bought a buddy seat on eBay so that I could still ride while my seat was being finished. Can't wait to install it.

Here is his contact info:

Mr. Miller would have to tell you. I have not received the seat yet. I am hoping the carbon fiber would be very grippy and the pleating along with more added padding will make the seat more comfy.

The carbon fiber looking material is good and grippy for me:) I asked them about the pleating and if it would make it a little softer (it felt a bit squishier than mine) he said that it should make it a bit softer, due to the extra material involved:)

Yeah I know. One of the qoutes I got here in Atlanta had like $75 down just in materials. These are the same guys who did Mr. Miller's black jack seat and he says it has held up beautifully so I believe the quality is there. These guys offered great communication so I highly recommend them.

Well done Mr Miller.

Mr. Miller? That bum just provided the inspiration and then went by Diamond Upholestery to check the work. Hmmm. I guess he did a good bit!

Who discovered Diamond Upholstery?

Anyone that would take time out of their day to check it did a special service. Time is precious.

Workmanship kudos to Diamond Upholstery.

Mr Miller should get his next seat done for free! Several scooterist I know here ate talking about sending their seats in for work. I will be sending my partner's seat out after I get mine back. So how about it Mr. Miller? Are you going to get yours re-covered? Perhaps something complimenting those flames on you black jack?

I am thinking about doing something this winter, and I think I am going to have them recover my motorcycle's seat too:)

It arrived today and I could not wait to get it installed. Here are a few pics. The carbon fiber material is so grippy and the pleating (along with the extra padding) makes the seat so much springy feeling. $75 + shipping folks!

Please don't gush over it.

A side note: The shipping cost me 38.50 to send over but only cost 16.96 to send back. I confirmed this with he UPS store since I will be sending out my partner's seat soon. the reason why is the box. The one he sent back is almost half the width of the one I sent. So if your going to send something consider using the smallest box possible.

Your scoot has come a long way. The seat looks pretty sweet.

Dimensional Weight

OK, for once, I can lend some "expertise" to this topic.
You are correct about your comment relating to box size.
My presumption is that you sent the original seat in a box larger than it came back to you in.

One of the rules of shipping has to do with dimensional weight. That is to say, weight determined by box size, not actual weight.

If your original box when measured LxWxH is greater than 5184 linear inches , then you would divide by a denominator of 194.

So, a 5 lb box that measures 8x8x8 will ship at 5lb because 8x8x8 is 512, which is less than 5184.
The same 5 lbs, if shipped in a box that measures 20x20x20 (8000 linear inches) which is greater than 5184, you would divide by 194 equals and you get 41.23 lbs.

So when you ship a large box, you are essential paying rent for space on that truck or plane.

Boring, i know.

That is looking really nice!!!

I may have to start my body mods sooner, especially after sliding it on my first Oregon ride! I drove Bud-Bud in my rental car from Florida to Hillsboro OR last week (46 hrs door to door beat that) and then slipped over while braking, first day at a new job and everything, it was a bad day!!

I just was able to take the scoot for a test ride and I have t say it is shameful how bad the new seat makes the old one feel. The Buddy has always had a very stiff ride but now my butt never feels any of the impact. I still feel it in the handlebars but my butt is as happy as can be. Also the rise in the back of the seat sort of adds a little lower back support. It's feels like I have a big touring seat on my bike. Awesome!

Looks nice!

Is it as comfortable as you had hoped? How about water resistant?
Did they use memory foam?

I'm not necessarily in the market for a new seat for comfort--maybe for looks...but you never know.

My husband and I did a 375 mile trip this past few days and my butt was okay--I did have upper back/shoulder blade pain though.

The seat is a lot more comfy. The jars from the shocks are never felt in my butt or lower back. I am not sure what type of extra padding was added. I think the pleading helped a great deal vthe bike was left out in the rain one night at the rally and my butt never got wet when I rode it home. Also, the way he brought the back of my seat higher makes a nice lumbar support.
