Good Buddy 50 2-stroke oil?

Post by NHBailey »

We have a new Buddy 50 (only about 160 miles so far) and have yet to need to put oil in. But, I have a feeling that time will come soon. So, does anyone have any thoughts about what is good?
I've looked at auto stores, but only see chainsaw or snowmobile oils, some generic 2-stroke motorcycle oil, and then good motorcycle racing oil. None of those seemed to make sense to me.
We're not far from Scooterworks which is right next to Genuine HQ, and they sell some that I think will work, but hours are sort of limited. They sell some Strawberry scented stuff that the wife seems to like the idea of. But really, I'm just looking for something that is great oil.
I'm willing to pay more for good oil if it will make the engine last longer.
I've read a lot about oil for the 125 on here, but not much about the 50.
Also, people have said for the 125 that petroleum based is better for the first 500 miles or so, then switch to synthetic... is that true for the 50 as well, or is that only true for 4-stroke engines?
Thanks.

The same is true for 2-strokes--don't switch to synthetic until after break-in (500-600 miles on other scoots; I don't know what the Buddy 50 manual says). I use Motul 710 in my two-stroke Stella and 2004 Vino 50; a lot of people recommend it. A lot of two-stroke scooterists also use Amsoil. Both are readily available online, and lots of motorcycle/scooter shops will have the Motul 710. Don't use chainsaw or lawnmower oil.
