Progressive/Genuine Promo Offer

Post by charlie55 »

Progressive insurance is now offering a coupon that entitles you to a free Prima lock and cover when you purchase a new Buddy, RoughHouse, Stella, or Blur. I didn't need to log in to my account, so I imagine that it's not dependent upon your being a Progressive customer:

Well I figured it couldn't hurt to ask the dealer anyway so I sent them an email. I figure since it is a promo for leads to possible new insurance customers, what difference does it make to Progressive whether I give them my lead now or last month. Silly this wasn't posted at dealerships.

"Howdy, love the scoot so far and wanted to ask since I forgot to bring this coupon to receive a free PRIMA
lock and a weatherproof PRIMA cover for your new purchase. This oer is valid through August of 2011, can I still get it honored? Thought Id ask the coupon link is here. http://www.progressive.com/perkshare/ge ... essive.pdf

As marketing goes, they probably figure since you bought last month, you insured last month. Promos are rarely retroactive, but good luck.

My dealer sent me this email so it looks like I got one on the way :D

"Hello George,

I recevied a response from Genuine Scooter's today in regards to the coupon and they said that it is supposed to start on 6/1 but since you bought it on 5/15 they would honor the coupon. I will order the cover and lock set and let you know when it has come in."

UPS-man just dilivered my promo

Post by CWO4GUNNER »

Wow got more for my Buddy Progressive promo then expected. A Prima scooter cover, Prima 6 foot 3/4 inch cable lock, Grape head sour candies. The chain of delivery a bit odd though. All items from Scooterworks invoice from my dealer on behalf of Progressive Insurance, a $45 value. In all fairness I ll have to call them for a quote. Ill let you know how close they come to 6 motorcycles for $125 a year.

Got my Buddy from San Jose Vespa before I saw this offer. Since Bosco is a member in good standing with Modern Buddy, can't hurt to check out the possibility of a post-purchase goodie!

Dealer said that Genuine would not honor my purchase for the promotion. I bought mine on 05/26 and the promo specifies 06/01 or something like that.... :(

My dealer mentioned something similar but asked anyway and I still got it but had to followup twice. Nevertheless it was a surprised. Honestly the cable lock is way too thick 1 inch and too stiff for practical use IMO. I love using a thinner 3/8 inch braided stainless steel cable 9ft long as I always lock to a pole, shopping cart rack or bike rack.

pugbuddy, if you want the Prima and willing to pay for shipping ill give it to you if you need it. :D

I really need to look into this more. My progressive is $90 a month for two scooters. That's full coverage, pip, uim. That's no accidents, etc. And I'm 42. What am I missing?

Sorry, didn't see this earlier! Thanks for the offer but I'll pass. I am a bit of a "free stuff ho" so it's just as good that I don't get the package! I don't see where I'd use any of it to be honest. Thanks again though!

Hey, I just got my Progressive Prima chain and the scooter cover for my Stella but I didn't get any grape head sour candies from Scooteworks. :?

I must give big props to my scooter dealer and to Genuine though; I picked up my scooter last Wednesday and received my booty today. Now I'm waiting for my shirt and what ever else Genuine sends when you get a new scooter.

aaaaaaa. The dealer I got my scooter from (scoot around town) is closing up shop in 2 weeks, they told me to contact genuine, and they were less than helpful....very matter of fact (contact your dealer) told em' dealer was closing and didn't have any vendor accounts anymore selling everything in store. Kinda sad.

I tried to redeem this but my dealer told me that they weren't impressed with the cover, lock, or terms of the deal, so they weren't participating. Not sure I can force them to redeem it for me but it kind of made me mad. Why not let ME decided whether the products are decent? Seems like there may be a cost to the dealer on this.

Thoughts?

Location maybe? Our insurance in Breckenridge, CO full coverage on a BV 500 & Sports City 250 costs less than the liablility/personal injury coverage on the 4 older scoots in Houston where my 18 year old would make full coverage another $900 despite being accident free for 3 years and riding our Buddy 125 that is 5 years old.

That seems pretty lame; it's supposed to be an incentive, isn't it? Is the dealer your only local scooter shop? If so, you probably don't want to burn bridges early on and would want to proceed pretty diplomatically.

Otherwise, I'd probably tell them to do it anyway because you want your free swag, unless they're offering to give you their own cover/lock. If they wobble, contact Genuine directly to complain?

That's what I'd do. Genuine will respond pretty quickly also.

Unfortunately they are the only Genuine dealer in the area, so you're right, I don't want to burn any bridges. So far they have been really great (no sales pressure / worked with me to customize the scoot / super friendly and knowledgable staff) but I wasn't thrilled with that response.

I just think that if it's a promotion offered through Genuine, the dealer should be required to fulfill it. It's not a reflection on the dealership itself, so I'm not sure why their opinion of the products would have any bearing on whether they would honor the offer. My only thought is that this is somehow costing the dealer $ (they weren't impressed with the terms of the offer?!), and eliminating potential to directly sell me a cover and lock (neither of which was pushed at the point of sale - and I will now probably buy on the internet out of irritation). What could possibly be wrong with the terms of the offer? I print a piece of paper, drive it to the dealership and get a free cover and lock. Sounds like pretty good terms to me - if I don't like the stuff, I didn't pay anything for it anyway. If the dealer eats the cost then I guess it's not great terms for them, which I suspect is the actual reason.

Frustrated...

My understanding is that these items are either mailed specifically to you, or mailed to your dealer, from Genuine in Chicago.

My dealer told me I should expect it in the mail soon?

I think I saw someone else post they got it within two weeks of purchase.

And the response from Genuine...

This offer is valid through participating dealers only. Participating dealers have to submit the coupon with a copy of the sales receipt. Whether a dealer chooses to participate is up to the individual dealer.

Guess I'm out of luck. Can anyone recommend a good cover / lock?

Man, my dealer must be on his game because I picked up my Stella on a Wednesday and gave him the ad at that time, I received my lock and cover the following Monday.

Thanks for this charlie55! I stopped by my dealer earlier today and they still accepted it even though its been two weeks since I bought the scooter. The cover is pretty nice but the lock is a bit fat. I may just stick with my disk lock.

Got my package with lock and cover yesterday. Very nice. As soon as I opened it I went outside and covered my scooter :D . I love my scooter dealer, Moxie Scooters, they are fabulous people. I called them and let them know about this offer and they just asked me to send the flyer and then they contacted Genuine and followed through. Great dealer.

Still waiting on mine.

It took six weeks just for me to get my roadside assistance card in the mail!!! Purchased 8/17, got my card in the mail on 9/27. Figure if it took that long for one letter, a package would take longer....

Emailed my dealer who said I should contact Genuine. Emailed Genuine this AM, got a reply within 20 minutes that they'll look into it.

Slightly bummed, cause I was actually really wanting the cover. My scoot got dusty these last six weeks :(

One month later...

Dean from Genuine went to the mat for me. My dealer, either intentionally or by accident, didn't fill out all the forms. I think the dealership then gave Dean the run around when he kept trying to get in contact with them. Salesman wouldn't call him back, then the salesman was 'out of town', etc.

I emailed them both again today, to ask about it, since another two weeks had passed since last contact. Dean emailed me back...again within 20 minutes...to say he's just going to send it out to me, and asked for my address.

So about 10 weeks after purchase, I'll finally get the free cover and lock! Woo.

Really appreciate Dean's effort, and pretty disapointed in the dealer (TO Powersports) - though at the beginning he was super friendly and told me it'd be cleared up in a jiffy, it was certainly dragged out beyond 'accidental' status imo.
